Improved Bathymetric Prediction Using Geological Information: SYNBATH
To date, ∼20% of the ocean floor has been surveyed by ships at a spatial resolution of 400 m or better. The remaining 80% has depth predicted from satellite altimeter‐derived gravity measurements at a relatively low resolution.

Paleomagnetism of Suiko Seamount, Emperor Seamount Chain
Using data from a topographic and magnetic survey, the magnetization vector of Suiko seamount near the middle of the Emperor seamount chain (44.5°N, 170°E) was calculated. An inclination of −31° ± 9° and a declination of 213° ± 9° was found, although the goodness ratio is poor (R = 1.1).

An assessment of bottom current controlled sedimentation in Pacific Ocean abyssal environments [PDF]
The effect of the circulation of polar-sourced dense waters on the deep seafloor is still largely unknown. This paper presents multibeam bathymetric evidence for the existence of present-day contourite drifts on the central Pacific ocean at depths ...

Back‐arc basins (BABs) are associated with plate margins where crustal shortening, seafloor spreading, and volcanism coexist. The Vavilov basin (Tyrrhenian Sea) is a Pliocene BAB associated with the Apennine‐Tyrrhenian Sea subduction system and ...

Spotlight 2: Jasper Seamount [PDF]
Jasper Seamount is a submarine volcano in the Fieberling-Guadalupe seamount trail, located off the coast of Baja California, Mexico. It rises from the 4000-m-deep seafloor to a summit depth of 700 m.

210Pb-Derived Bioturbation Rates in Sediments Around Seamounts in the Tropical Northwest Pacific
To evaluate bioturbation coefficients (DB) and mixing depths (L), 210Pb and 226Ra activity was measured in two sediments cores (from water depths of 5,398 m and 4,428 m), which were collected from seamount areas in the Northwest Pacific.

A three dimensional finite element model of wind effects upon higher harmonics of the internal tide. [PDF]
A non-linear three dimensional unstructured grid model of the M2 tide in the shelf edge area off the west coast of Scotland is used to examine the spatial distribution of the M2 internal tide and its higher harmonics in the region.

Seamount Fisheries: Do They Have a Future? [PDF]
Today, seamount fish populations are in trouble following a dismal 30-year history of overexploitation, depletion, and collapse, with untold consequences for global biodiversity and the complex, delicate, but poorly understood, open-ocean food webs ...
