Using 17 years of biologging data from 353 adult female northern elephant seals, we explored how seals modified their use of time and space when moving through nearshore areas where predation risk is high. We found that seals tended to depart at night, arrive during the day, and perform benthic dives along the continental shelf.

Age, Depth, and Residual Depth Anomalies in the North Pacific: Implications for Thermal Models of the Lithosphere and Upper Mantle [PDF]
We present an empirical basement depth versus age relation for the North Pacific Ocean, based on the statistical treatment of an ocean-wide gridded data set.

Tracing Taonga Trajectories: A Methodological Framework for Indigenous Heritage Mapping
Rangitāhua is a tupuna to Ngāti Kuri and represents the iwi's geographic and ancestral connection to the Pacific. Despite this millennium‐long ancestral tie, Ngāti Kuri's access to Rangitāhua has been severed for two centuries. Meanwhile, many European expeditions visited the islands, extracting and distributing natural history taonga across ...

Spotlight 5: Great Meteor Seamount [PDF]
Great Meteor Seamount is one of the largest seamounts in the Atlantic Ocean, rising from 4200-m depth at the seafloor to 270-m depth beneath the sea surface. Its elliptical plateau encompasses an area of 1500 km2, roughly matching the size of the Spanish
