An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Are Search Committees Really Searching?

open access: yesAcademic Medicine, 2003
Academic chair searches are admittedly a labor-intensive process, but they are made more difficult and often lead to less-than-optimal outcomes because search committees spend their time "advertising," "looking," but not truly searching for academic chairs.

Visual Search [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Biology, 2000
Visual search is the process of finding things that you are looking for in a world full of things that you are not looking for. Search tasks are ubiquitous. Many are so routine that we do not think of them as search tasks (e.g., Where is the space bar on the keyboard?). Others are more taxing (Where is the cat hiding?) and/or more important (Is there a

Optimal Search [PDF]

open access: yesEconometrica, 1985
This paper presents a general model of search in which the searcher maximizes the expected utility of search by choosing not only the number of periods of search but also the size of sample to be taken each period. Both no-recall and full-recall cases are allowed and the cost of search includes not only financial but also psychic cost.

Impaired creatinine-based estimated glomerular filtration rate in Thai individuals switching to dolutegravir: illustrating the role of cystatin C testing to aid clinical decision making

open access: yesAIDS Research and Therapy
Introduction Data about impact of switch to dolutegravir (DTG)-based antiretroviral therapy (ART) on estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) in Asians are scarce.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.
