Examining the Interplay Between Big Data and Microservices – A Bibliometric Review

open access: yesComplex Systems Informatics and Modeling Quarterly, 2021
Due to the ever increasing amount of data that is produced and captured in today’s world, the concept of big data has risen to prominence. However, implementing the respective applications is still a challenging task.

Time Optimal Ergodic Search [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Robots with the ability to balance time against the thoroughness of search have the potential to provide time-critical assistance in applications such as search and rescue. Current advances in ergodic coverage-based search methods have enabled robots to completely explore and search an area in a fixed amount of time.

To Tune or Not to Tune? [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 26th ACM SIGKDD International Conference on Knowledge Discovery & Data Mining, 2020
This experimental study presents several overlooked issues that pose a challenge for data analytics configuration tuning and deployment. These issues include: 1) the assumption of static workload/environment ignoring the dynamic characteristics of the analytics environment (e.g. the frequent need for workload retuning).

On the trajectories and performance of Infotaxis, an information-based greedy search algorithm [PDF]

open access: yesEPL, 94 (2011) 20005, 2010
We present a continuous-space version of Infotaxis, a search algorithm where a searcher greedily moves to maximize the gain in information about the position of the target to be found. Using a combination of analytical and numerical tools we study the nature of the trajectories in two and three dimensions.

Potential evolutionary advantage of a dissociative search mechanism in DNA mismatch repair [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. E 103, 052404 (2021), 2020
Protein complexes involved in DNA mismatch repair appear to diffuse along dsDNA in order to locate a hemimethylated incision site via a dissociative mechanism. Here, we study the probability that these complexes locate a given target site via a semi-analytic, Monte Carlo calculation that tracks the association and dissociation of the complexes.

NBSearch: Semantic Search and Visual Exploration of Computational Notebooks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Code search is an important and frequent activity for developers using computational notebooks (e.g., Jupyter). The flexibility of notebooks brings challenges for effective code search, where classic search interfaces for traditional software code may be limited.

The quantum adiabatic search with decoherence in the instantaneous energy eigenbasis [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. A 72, 042317 (2005), 2005
In Phys. Rev. A {\bf 71}, 060312(R) (2005) the robustness of the local adiabatic quantum search to decoherence in the instantaneous eigenbasis of the search Hamiltonian was examined. We expand this analysis to include the case of the global adiabatic quantum search. As in the case of the local search the asymptotic time complexity for the global search

Negatively Correlated Search [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, Vol. 34, Issue 3, pp. 1-9, March 2016, 2015
Evolutionary Algorithms (EAs) have been shown to be powerful tools for complex optimization problems, which are ubiquitous in both communication and big data analytics. This paper presents a new EA, namely Negatively Correlated Search (NCS), which maintains multiple individual search processes in parallel and models the search behaviors of individual ...
