Salivary cortisol levels in search and rescue (SAR) dogs under rescue examination conditions
Journal of Veterinary Behavior: Clinical Applications and Research, 2021Abstract The aim of the study was to assess the salivary cortisol level in search and rescue dogs during rescue search examinations. The research was carried out during open-field and disaster examinations for search and rescue dogs in Poland. Forty-one dogs took part in the study.

SAR Nets: An Evaluation of Semantic Segmentation Networks with Attention Mechanisms for Search and Rescue Scenes [PDF]
This paper evaluates four semantic segmentation models in Search-and-Rescue (SAR) scenarios obtained from ground vehicles. Two base models are used (U-Net and PSPNet) to compare different approaches to semantic segmentation, such as skip connections between encoder and decoder stages and using a pooling pyramid module.

Search and Rescue (SAR) is an operation conducted to find and return to safety the survivors of an emergency incident, where the search may have to be conducted in difficult areas such as in mountains, deserts, forests or at sea. A SAR operation typically requires a search grid for the identified search area, and a search pattern to conduct a search ...

Does the sex of the search and rescue (SAR) dog handler affect the work of the rescue team?
Dog behavior, 2022The handler's sex, as well as his personality and individual predispositions, may affect his suitability for work in rescue services. In addition, handler's susceptibility to stress may affect the effects of search and rescue (SAR) dog's work. The aim of the study was to analyze the salivary cortisol level of SAR dog handlers concerning the sex of the ...
