Experimental study of 199Hg spin anti-relaxation coatings
We report on a comparison of spin relaxation rates in a $^{199}$Hg magnetometer using different wall coatings. A compact mercury magnetometer was built for this purpose.

Characterizing Ion‐Scale Fluctuations Around Dipolarization Fronts in Earth's Magnetotail
Abstract In the Earth's magnetotail bursty bulk flows are often associated with dipolarizing magnetic flux bundles. The leading edges of such earthward‐moving flux bundles are called dipolarization fronts (DF). In the present study we investigate the characteristics of ion‐scale oscillations embedded inside DFs, using observations from NASA's ...

Frequency shifts in noble-gas magnetometers
Polarized nuclei are a powerful tool in nuclear spin studies and in searches for beyond-the-standard model physics. Noble-gas comagnetometer systems, which compare two nuclear species, have thus far been limited by anomalous frequency variations of ...

Abstract Electric field instruments function by electrically coupling to the surrounding plasma, resulting in a response function that varies depending on local conditions. This variable coupling can complicate quantitative interpretation of wave measurements, yet is rarely considered.

A large-scale magnetic shield with 10^6 damping at mHz frequencies
We present a magnetically shielded environment with a damping factor larger than one million at the mHz frequency regime and an extremely low field and gradient over an extended volume.

Polarization Properties of Whistler Waves From the First 17 Parker Solar Probe Encounters
We present statistics on the polarization properties of whistler waves in the solar wind down to 0.05 AU (10.75 RS) using data from Parker Solar Probe's first 17 encounters.

Precision measurement of magnetic characteristics of an article with nullification of external magnetic fields [PDF]
An apparatus for characterizing the magnetic field of a device under test is discussed. The apparatus is comprised of five separate devices: (1) a device for nullifying the ambient magnetic fields in a test environment area with a constant applied ...

Evidence Concerning Instabilities of the Distant Geomagnetic Field: Pioneer I [PDF]
The search-coil magnetometer carried on Pioneer I has yielded evidence of complex geomagnetic behavior at great distances from the earth. This paper is intended to report only some preliminary observations; in particular, what appears to be directional ...

Broadband dark matter axion detection using a cylindrical capacitor
Cosmological axions/axion-like particles can compose a significant part of dark matter; however, the uncertainty of their mass is large. Here, we propose to search the axions using a cylindrical capacitor, in which the static electric field converts dark
