In the tropics, the conservation of tree species is closely linked to that of animals, as a large proportion of trees are zoochoric and therefore rely on the movement of animals to disperse their seeds in order to increase the chances of the survival of ...

LHC searches for dark sector showers
This paper proposes a new search program for dark sector parton showers at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). These signatures arise in theories characterized by strong dynamics in a hidden sector, such as Hidden Valley models.

Coarse-grained force fields (CG FFs) such as the Martini model entail a predefined, fixed set of Lennard-Jones parameters (building blocks) to model virtually all possible nonbonded interactions between chemically relevant molecules.

Towards the Automatic and Schedule-Aware Alerting of Internetwork Time Series
A common factor of every network monitoring system is an alerting module for time series. This module aims at triggering a warning when any type of abnormal behavior is detected in the patterns of a time series. Such a search for anomalies can be carried

Cosmology and signals of light pseudo-Dirac dark matter
In this paper, we analyze the cosmological evolution, allowed parameter space, and observational prospects for a dark sector consisting of thermally produced pseudo-Dirac fermions with a small mass splitting, coupled to the Standard Model through a dark ...

Applications of Parametric Searching in Geometric Optimization
Summary: We present several applications in computational geometry of Megiddo's parametric searching technique. These applications include: (1) finding the minimum Hausdorff distance in the Euclidean metric between two polygonal regions under translation; (2) computing the biggest line segment that can be placed inside a simple polygon; (3) computing ...

Cardiovascular oscillations: in search of a nonlinear parametric model [PDF]
We suggest a fresh approach to the modeling of the human cardiovascular system. Taking advantage of a new Bayesian inference technique, able to deal with stochastic nonlinear systems, we show that one can estimate parameters for models of the cardiovascular system directly from measured time series.

A Parametric Framework for Cooperative Parallel Local Search [PDF]
In this paper we address the problem of parallelizing local search. We propose a general framework where different local search engines cooperate (through communication) in the quest for a solution. Several parameters allow the user to instantiate and customize the framework, like the degree of intensification and diversification.
