Heuristically Adaptive Diffusion‐Model Evolutionary Strategy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Building on the mathematical equivalence between diffusion models and evolutionary algorithms, researchers demonstrate unprecedented control over evolutionary optimization through conditional diffusion. By training diffusion models to associate parameters with specific traits, they can guide evolution toward solutions exhibiting desired behaviors ...

Microlensing path parametrization for Earth-like Exoplanet detection around solar mass stars

open access: yes, 2018
We propose a new parametrization of the impact parameter u0 and impact angle {\alpha} for microlensing systems composed by an Earth-like Exoplanet around a Solar mass Star at 1 AU.

A Parametric Framework for Cooperative Parallel Local Search [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In this paper we address the problem of parallelizing local search. We propose a general framework where different local search engines cooperate (through communication) in the quest for a solution. Several parameters allow the user to instantiate and customize the framework, like the degree of intensification and diversification.

Consensus Formation and Change are Enhanced by Neutrality

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Neutral agents are shown to enhance both the formation and overturning of consensus in collective decision‐making. A general mathematical model and experiments with locusts and humans reveal that neutrality enables robust consensus via simple interactions and accelerates consensus change by reducing effective population size.

Leaf of leaf foliation and Beltrami parametrization in d > 2 dimensional gravity

open access: yesNuclear Physics B
This work establishes the existence of a covariant “Beltrami vielbein” in dimensions d>2, generalizing the well-known d=2 case. The definition of this vielbein is motivated by a sub-foliation structure of the Arnowitt–Deser–Misner (ADM) slices of a d ...

Neural Fields for Highly Accelerated 2D Cine Phase Contrast MRI

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT 2D cine phase contrast (CPC) MRI provides quantitative information on blood velocity and flow within the human vasculature. However, data acquisition is time‐consuming, motivating the reconstruction of the velocity field from undersampled measurements to reduce scan times. In this work, neural fields are proposed as a continuous spatiotemporal

Understanding Eye Movements: Psychophysics and a Model of Primary Visual Cortex

open access: yesELCVIA Electronic Letters on Computer Vision and Image Analysis, 2020
Humans move their eyes in order to learn visual representations of the world. These eye movements depend on distinct factors, either by the scene that we perceive or by our own decisions.

Information-Geometric Optimization Algorithms: A Unifying Picture via Invariance Principles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We present a canonical way to turn any smooth parametric family of probability distributions on an arbitrary search space $X$ into a continuous-time black-box optimization method on $X$, the \emph{information-geometric optimization} (IGO) method ...

Enriching Non-Parametric Bidirectional Search Algorithms

open access: yesProceedings of the AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence, 2019
NBS is a non-parametric bidirectional search algorithm proven to expand at most twice the number of node expansions required to verify the optimality of a solution. We introduce new variants of NBS that are aimed at finding all optimal solutions. We then introduce an algorithmic framework that includes NBS as a special case. Finally, we introduce DVCBS,
