On the spatial and temporal shift in the archetypal seasonal temperature cycle as driven by annual and semi-annual harmonics [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Statistical methods are required to evaluate and quantify the uncertainty in environmental processes, such as land and sea surface temperature, in a changing climate. Typically, annual harmonics are used to characterize the variation in the seasonal temperature cycle. However, an often overlooked feature of the climate seasonal cycle is the semi-annual

Sulfonated para‐Polybenzimidazole Membranes for Use in Vanadium Redox Flow Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Dense sulfonated para‐PBI membranes (MS‐PBI) are tested in the VRFB. The conductivity is 10 times lower than reported for MS‐PBI gel membranes, but 10 times higher than that of meta‐PBI. The influence of membrane preparation process, thickness, and operating temperature on the VRFB performance is investigated.

Same Features, Different Day: Weakly Supervised Feature Learning for Seasonal Invariance [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
"Like night and day" is a commonly used expression to imply that two things are completely different. Unfortunately, this tends to be the case for current visual feature representations of the same scene across varying seasons or times of day. The aim of this paper is to provide a dense feature representation that can be used to perform localization ...

Confining Surface Oxygen Redox in Double Perovskites for Enhanced Oxygen Evolution Reaction Activity and Stability

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
The double perovskite BaSrNiWO6 is developed as an oxygen evolution reaction catalyst. B‐site W6+ dissolution drives in situ reconstruction of the surface to a disordered, NiO‐like layer. Consequently, local oxygen species are activated for a surface lattice oxygen evolution mechanism (sLOEM).

The transcriptional repressor complex FRS7-FRS12 regulates flowering time and growth in Arabidopsis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Most living organisms developed systems to efficiently time environmental changes. The plant-clock acts in coordination with external signals to generate output responses determining seasonal growth and flowering time.

Toward Complete CO2 Electroconversion: Status, Challenges, and Perspectives

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Electrocatalytic CO2 reduction and CO2 batteries face challenges in achieving complete CO2 conversion with high conversion rates and Faradaic efficiency simultaneously. Existing systems compromise one for the other with incomplete CO2 conversion and inefficiencies, hindering practical applications. This perspective highlights state‐of‐the‐art progress,

Circannual changes in stress and feeding hormones and their effect on food-seeking behaviors.

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2013
Seasonal fluctuations in food availability show a tight association with seasonal variations in body weight and food intake. Seasonal variations in food intake, energy storage and expenditure appear to be a widespread phenomenon suggesting they may have

When do beetles and bugs fly? A unified scheme for describing seasonal flight behaviour of highly dispersing primary aquatic insects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Many authors investigated the dispersal flight of aquatic insects, but the exact length of the seasonal flying periods and its main characteristics have not been determined.

A possible effect of atmospheric circulation in the daily variation of the earth's magnetic field [PDF]

open access: yes, 1963
The daily variation of the horizontal intensity of the earth's magnetic field at Honolulu exhibits seasonal features that are not related in a simple way to solar declination.
