Radiation measurements from polar and geosynchronous satellites [PDF]

open access: yes, 1978
The following topics are discussed: (1) cloud effects in climate determination; (2) annual variation in the global heat balance of the earth; (3) the accuracy of precipitation estimates made from passive microwave measurements from satellites; (4 ...

Optimization and Cost Evaluation of an Autonomous Hybrid Renewable Energy System for Electrifying Rural Areas in Nigeria

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
This research explores the techno‐economic and environmental performance of fully renewable hybrid energy systems for rural electrification in Auchi, Nigeria. HOMER Pro is utilized to model and optimize PV/WT/Battery, PV/Battery, and WT/Battery configurations under identical conditions.

Coupled Heat–Moisture Effects of Initial Soil Water Content on Seasonal Underground Thermal Energy Storage with Coaxial Borehole Heat Exchangers

open access: yesEnergies
Engineering sizing of seasonal underground thermal energy storage (SUTES) systems remains constrained by the complex coupling of heat and moisture transport in unsaturated porous media.

Linking glacial-interglacial states to multiple equilibria of climate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Glacial-Interglacial cycles are often described as an amplified global response of the climate to perturbations in solar radiation caused by oscillations of Earth's orbit. However, it remains unclear whether internal feedbacks are large enough to account

Thermal Behavior of a Heat Exchanger Module for Seasonal Heat Storage

open access: yesEnergy Procedia, 2012
AbstractExperimental and theoretic investigations are carried out to study the heat transfer capacity rate of a heat exchanger module for seasonal heat storage with sodium acetate trihydrate (SAT) supercooling in a stable way. A sandwich heat storage test module has been built with the phase change material (PCM) storage box in between two plate heat ...

Waste to Hydrogen: Transforming Food Waste Into Biohythane (Bio‐H2 + Bio‐CH4) in a Two‐Stage Reactor With the Aid of a Metal‐Ion Catalyst

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a two‐stage catalytic bioreactor system that converts real food waste into high‐purity biohydrogen and biohythane. In Stage‐1, an enriched Clostridium thermocellum culture combined with Ni2+─Fe2+ bimetallic catalysis enhances hydrolysis efficiency and hydrogenase activity, resulting in a 77% increase in H2 yield and 75.8% purity

Environmental Thermoeconomic Performance Analysis of Gas Steam Combined Cycle With Different Inlet Air Cooling Technologies

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
This study establishes an environmental thermoeconomic cost model to investigate the impact of two IAC technologies on the performance of a GSCC from three aspects of energy, economy, and environment. Under arid climate conditions, the SEC technology demonstrates superior performance in terms of cost‐effectiveness and environmental impact.

The sunergy greenhouse - one yer of measurements in a next generation greenhouse [PDF]

open access: yes
In summer, greenhouses have to deal with an excess of solar energy which is mostly discharged by ventilation. In moderate climates, on a yearly base this discharge of energy is comparable to the energy demand for heating.

Unravelling the relative contributions of climate change and ground disturbance to subsurface temperature perturbations: Case studies from Tyneside, UK [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
When assessing subsurface urban heat islands (UHIs) it is important to distinguish between localized effects of land-use change and the impacts of global climate change. However, few investigations have successfully unraveled the two influences.

Decentralized heat supply with seasonal heat storage systems: Comparison of different heating systems

open access: yesEnergy Procedia, 2018
Abstract To reach international climate goals, the research about energy consumption have to focus more on existing buildings. In the building sector, the increase of energy efficiency of buildings will not be sufficient to reduce the consumption of fossil resources significantly.
