Dynamic Modeling and Analysis of a Disruptive Thermochemical Energy Storage Suitable for Linear Focus Solar Technologies

open access: yesSolarPACES Conference Proceedings
The industrial sector is a significant energy consumer, primarily reliant on fossil fuels. Nevertheless, the potential of Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) technologies for decarbonizing the industry is promising and the challenges posed by variability in ...

Variability of the Climate in Athens‐Greece Over the Last 165 Years of the Period 1858–2023: An Assessment Based on Thornthwaite's Climate Classification and Relevant Indices

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Athens' climate according to Thorthwaite is stable despite warming trends. Athens' climate remains semi‐arid and mesothermal over 165 years. Strong increases in evapotranspiration and stable precipitation were found. Soil water storage capacity affects water deficits but not aridity type.

Smart Reuse of Waste Heat from Data Centres: Energy and Exergy Analysis for a District-Heating Network in Bulgaria

open access: yesEnergies
The rapid growth of data centres is driving higher electricity consumption and continuous generation of low-grade waste heat. Integrating this heat into district-heating networks offers a smart strategy for thermal management in urban areas.

Heatwave Characteristics and Trends Across Eight Japanese Cities

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Heatwaves occur with high likelihood across Japan. Strong north–south contrasts exist in heatwave characteristics. Southern locations experience more frequent, longer, and more intense heatwaves. Since 1955 there has been an increase in heatwave frequency, duration, and cumulative heat, particularly for nocturnal heatwaves. ABSTRACT This study provides

An update of a simulation study of passively heated residemtial buildings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A simulation study of passively heated residential buildings” published in Procedia Engineering 2015 showed how circulating 15-17ºC water from a 50-m deep U-tube to a floor radiator and solar-heated water from a 30 evacuated tube solar collector and a 2 ...

Are West African Heat‐Lows Analogous to Dry Tropical Cyclones?

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Heat‐lows qualitatively resemble dry tropical cyclones (TCs), though their underlying physics has yet to be compared. In this study, we show that West African transient heat‐low climatology correlates well with TC potential intensity generalised over land.

Spatiotemporal Evolution of Hydroclimatic Variables in the Brazilian Semi‐Arid Region Through the Aridity Index and Susceptibility to Desertification

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Over the past 60 years, noticeable changes have been observed in the main hydroclimatological variables, driven by both natural and anthropogenic factors. In the context of climate change, such behaviour may adversely affect the state's economic activities, as well as increase the recurrence of extreme events in the region.

Multi‐Country‐Multi‐City Characterisation of Heat Stress and Exposure in Africa

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
This study provides the first continent‐wide, grid‐specific assessment of heat stress trends in Africa, revealing a sharp rise in multi‐scale extreme heat episodes and shifting population exposure. Findings highlight urgent implications for urban planning and climate adaptation.
