Sustainable Flame‐Retardant Poly Lactic Acid Biocomposites Reinforced with Polyphosphate‐Enriched Microalgae: Unlocking the Potential of Hyper‐Compensation

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, Volume 9, Issue 8, August 2025.
This study explores microalgae cultivation for wastewater treatment and enhancement of poly lactic acid (PLA)‐based biocomposites. It achieves up to 99.9% nutrient removal, increases biomass productivity by 322%, and demonstrates a triphasic luxury phosphorus uptake system. Incorporation into PLA improves fire‐retardant properties, suggesting potential

Interannual and Seasonal Dynamics of Volatile Organic Compound Fluxes From the Boreal Forest Floor

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2019
In the northern hemisphere, boreal forests are a major source of biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs), which drive atmospheric processes and lead to cloud formation and changes in the Earth’s radiation budget.

Application of a Dynamic Semitransparent Agrivoltaic Panel for Controlling Sunlight Allocation to Solar Cells and Crops

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, EarlyView.
Effects of dynamic agrivoltaic semitransparency controls on cucumber seedling growth are assessed for this study using a micro‐cell photovoltaic panel. Seedling growth with 9:30–14:30 agrivoltaic shading is comparable to that without shading. The dynamic shading regulates the electrical energy and crop production allocation.

Large seasonal variation of soil respiration in a secondary tropical moist forest in Puerto Rico

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2021
Tropical forests are the largest contributors to global emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) to the atmosphere via soil respiration (Rs). As such, identifying the main controls on Rs in tropical forests is essential for accurately projecting the ...

Abiotic Factors and Plant Communities Shape the Distribution of Soil Pathogenic Oomycetes in Chinese Grasslands

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The continental‐scale study reveals that soil phosphorus strongly predicts the richness of soil pathogenic oomycetes in Chinese grasslands, while precipitation and plant species richness drive their absolute abundance; modeling predicts ≈42% of grassland areas may face elevated oomycete disease risk under future climate scenarios, especially in typical
