This book is the definitive history of the largest ever waterborne evacuation. The book reveals the dramatic story of how the New York Harbor maritime community heroically delivered stranded commuters, residents, and visitors out of harm's way. Even before the US Coast Guard called for “all available boats,” tugs, ferries, dinner boats, and other ...

Complex ecology of China's seawall
Science, 2015In the Policy Forum “Rethinking China's new great wall” (21 November 2014, p. [912][1]), Z. Ma et al. demonstrated that coastal land reclamation and infrastructure construction are destroying coastal wetlands and threatening biodiversity. However, the ecological impacts of the “new Great Wall” are complex and unpredictable.

Numerically Simulating Seawall Overtopping
Coastal Engineering 2000, 2001Developments in computational modelling of storm waves propagating in the coastal surf zone and overtopping at sea walls and related structures is reported. The AMAZON suite of 1D and 2D Plan shallow water models are used for the calculations. The models employ a modern Riemann-based upwind scheme in a finite volume form for use on boundary-conforming ...

Complex ecology of China's seawall—Response
Science, 2015X.-W. Huang et al. indicate that the seawalls constructed along the coast can help rocky shore organisms spread to and settle down in a region out of their original biogeographic range, leading to an increase in biodiversity of certain aquatic taxa in the regions where seawalls were built ...

Hadashot Arkheologiyot - Excavations and Surveys in Israel, 2014
In January-March 2008, archaeological inspections were carried out at the foot of the southern seawall in 'Akko (Permit No. A-5610; map ref. 207020-50/758500-42), as part of the engineering plan for the conservation and rehabilitation of the seawall at Hof Ha-Susim.

Overtopping Rates for Seawalls
2023Regression analysis is used to develop equations that are easy to use but reasonably accurate in calculating overtopping rates for seawalls. Data are taken from physical model studies and include a wide range of seawall types and wave conditions. The seawalls are divided into seven basic groups and regression coefficients are determined for each group.

Reflection characteristics of permeable seawalls
Coastal Engineering, 1994Abstract The reflection characteristics of permeable vertical seawalls has been determined with a numerical model based on the methodology proposed by Ijima et al. (1976). The variation of the reflection coefficients with the porosity of the wall, its friction factor and the relative wall width is studied and compared with the analytical results of ...

Property Issues of Istanbul Seawalls
22nd Annual European Real Estate Society Conference, 2015Istanbul Seawalls, prolonged along the northern and the southern shores of historic peninsula, have been witnesses to all periods of historic Istanbul since its establishment as a Greek colony at the tip of the peninsula. They were influenced by the historical developments of the city as the other parts of Istanbul City-Walls.
