Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Surface Tension of Seawater [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physical and Chemical Reference Data, 2014
New measurements and a reference correlation for the surface tension of seawater at atmospheric pressure are presented in this paper. Surface tension of seawater was measured across a salinity range of 20 ⩽ S ⩽ 131 g/kg and a temperature range of 1 ⩽ t ⩽ 92 °C at atmospheric pressure using the Wilhelmy plate method.

Effect of Water Aging on the Mechanical Properties of Hybrid Carbon/Aramid Reinforced Thermoplastic Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the mechanical properties of Carbon/Aramid intraply hybrid fiber‐reinforced Elium composites under 6 months of water aging. After aging, flexural strength decreases by 25.89%, tensile strength by 4.40%, and fracture toughness by 21.56%.

Effects of low seawater pH on the marine polychaete Platynereis dumerilii [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
An important priority for any organism is to maintain internal cellular homeostasis including acidbase balance. Yet, the molecular level impacts of changing environmental conditions, such as low pH, remain uncharacterised.

Fuel Production from Seawater and Fuel Cells Using Seawater [PDF]

open access: yesChemSusChem, 2017
AbstractSeawater is the most abundant resource on our planet and fuel production from seawater has the notable advantage that it would not compete with growing demands for pure water. This Review focuses on the production of fuels from seawater and their direct use in fuel cells.

Catalysis of oxygen reduction in PEM fuel cell by seawater biofilm [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The catalysis of oxygen reduction on metallic materials has been widely studied in the domain of aerobic corrosion. In this framework, it has been stated that seawater biofilms are able to catalyse efficiently oxygen reduction on stainless steels.
