Expedited desalination permitting enables adaptive planning and water system cost reduction

open access: yesEnvironmental Research: Infrastructure and Sustainability
Seawater desalination is a drought-proof water supply for coastal cities, but widespread development of desalination plants in the U.S. has been limited by both cost and the complexity of permitting processes designed to minimize environmental impact ...

Economic Assessment of Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement Through Electrodialysis: The Role of Carbon Credits in Comparing Solar Energy and Thermal Waste Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, Volume 10, Issue 6, June 2026.
This study evaluates the economic feasibility of an Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement (OAE) plant with an annual CO2 removal capacity of 878 tonnes. The project is profitable only under scenarios with high carbon credit prices, while medium and low‐price scenarios yield a negative net present value.

Concentrated Seawater‐Assisted Greener Production of Biochar: Waste Valorization and Its Implication in Circular Economy

open access: yesCleanMat, Volume 3, Issue 2, Page 122-129, June 2026.
This work demonstrates upcycling of waste biomass together with waste brine water to functional biochar materials with applications in both supercapacitors and adsorbent materials. This approach aligns with the principles of the circular economy, where waste streams are transformed into valuable resources, contributing to a more sustainable and ...

Hydrogen Energy Research in Italy in the Bioeconomy Era

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, Volume 14, Issue 6, Page 2692-2703, June 2026.
Image shows nearly completed NEOM solar hydrogen and green ammonia plant in Saudi Arabia. Solar (“green”) hydrogen is produced using alkaline water electrolyzers produced in Italy. ABSTRACT In 2026, the nearly concomitant launch of the world's first H2‐powered ship in Ancona, the completion of the first green H2 pipeline to refuel some 100 hydrogen ...
