A test of operational sex ratio theory across latitudes reveals temporal variation in sex‐specific behavioural reaction norms

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 94, Issue 4, Page 642-656, April 2025.
In wild populations, sexual selection interacts with ecological factors and the social environment. Using the reaction norm framework, this study shows that the sexual display behaviours of a marine fish respond to the social environment across a range of latitudes. Behavioural reaction norms are sex‐specific and vary over time. Abstract Predicting the

Determination of stabilizer concentration and process effect on the stability of milk‐based cocoa beverage

open access: yesJournal of Food Science, Volume 90, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract In the production of milk‐based cocoa beverages, stability challenges such as sedimentation and creaming may arise due to the delicate balance of cocoa particles, proteins, and fat content, impacting the uniformity and texture of the final product.

Fishers' interactions with endangered “rhinorays” in Karimunjawa National Park, and factors influencing willingness to engage in pro‐conservation behavior

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 7, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract The “rhinorays” (giant guitarfish‐Glaucostegidae and wedgefish‐Rhinidae) are a critically endangered group of “shark‐like rays,” which have experienced steep global population declines in the past decade due to overfishing. Their slow life histories and high market value increase the risk of trade‐driven extinction and lead to trade‐offs ...

Defensive Behaviour in Intertidal Crabs

open access: yesEthology, Volume 131, Issue 4, April 2025.
Mangrove swimming crab showing defensive behaviour by raising its chelae; ruler and grey card are also shown. ABSTRACT Despite a long roster of prey defences against predators now documented by biologists, any given species utilises only some of them, and we have few a priori predictions as to if, when or where they will be employed.
