Oscillation criteria for damped quasilinear second-order elliptic equations

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2011
In 2010, Yoshida [13] stated that oscillation criteria for the superlinear-sublinear elliptic equation equation $$ abla cdot ig(A(x)Phi(abla v)ig) + (alpha+1)B(x)cdotPhi(abla v) + C(x) phi_eta(v) + D(x) phi_gamma (v)=f(x) $$ were not known.

Numerical Solutions of Second-Order Elliptic Equations with C-Bézier Basis

open access: yesAxioms
This article introduces a finite element method based on the C-Bézier basis function for second-order elliptic equations. The trial function of the finite element method is set up using a combination of C-Bézier tensor product bases. One advantage of the

Creep‐Induced Microstructural Evolution in an A2‐B2 Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A 27.3Ta‐27.3Mo‐27.3Ti‐8Cr‐10Al (at.%) refractory high‐entropy alloy with precipitation‐strengthened A2‐B2 microstructure was studied by creep tests at 1030°C, which demonstrate a transition in deformation mechanisms in the range of 100–150 MPa applied stress. This is associated with changes in dislocation–precipitate interactions. Relevant deformation

Uniqueness results for elliptic problems with singular data

open access: yesBoundary Value Problems, 2006
We obtain some uniqueness results for the Dirichlet problem for second-order elliptic equations in an unbounded open set Ω without the cone property, and with data depending on appropriate weight functions.

An extension of a theorem by M. I. Freidlin to good solutions to elliptic nondivergence equations

open access: yesLe Matematiche, 1999
In the context of second order linear uniformly elliptic equations with measurable coefficients, a result of Freidlin [9], which deals with homogenization type properties for elliptic equations with smooth periodic coefficients, is extended to ...

Chirality and Organization of Adsorbates Modify Surface Phonon Dynamics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Chirality and molecular organization are shown to influence surface phonon dynamics in gold films. Time‐resolved Joule heating measurements reveal that ordered homochiral monolayers increase the Debye temperature and disordered layers reduce it, while ordered racemic controls have no effect.

Stable splitting of bivariate spline spaces by Bernstein-Bézier methods

open access: yes, 2012
We develop stable splitting of the minimal determining sets for the spaces of bivariate C1 splines on triangulations, including a modified Argyris space, Clough-Tocher, Powell-Sabin and quadrilateral macro-element spaces.

Compact and stable discontinuous Galerkin methods for convection-diffusion problems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We present a new scheme, the compact discontinuous Galerkin 2 (CDG2) method, for solving nonlinear convection-diffusion problems together with a detailed comparison to other well-accepted DG methods.
