AN ANALYSIS OF SOME SECOND DERIVATIVE METHODS
GEOPHYSICS, 1962Second vertical derivative methods developed by Henderson and Zietz, Elkins, Rosenbach, and Danes are applied to various mathematical harmonic fields and the response of the methods is investigated. All methods give good results as long as the wavelength of the anomaly is large compared with station spacing.

Generalized Second Derivative Linear Multistep Methods Based on the Methods of Enright
International Journal of Applied and Computational Mathematics, 2020It is known that the Dahlquist order and stability barrier limit the suitability of higher-order linear multistep methods for the numerical solution of stiff initial value problems (IVPs). Among approaches to overcome the Dahlquist barrier is the replacement of the initial value method with a well-conditioned boundary value method.

Second-Derivative Variance Minimization Method for Automated Spectral Subtraction
Applied Spectroscopy, 2004A new second-derivative variance minimization (SDVM) procedure is used to automatically extract spectra of a dilute component (solute) from a mixture whose spectrum is dominated by a major component (solvent). This procedure involves the subtraction of Savitzky–Golay second-derivative preprocessed pure solvent and mixture spectra by minimizing the ...

Methods Involving Second or Higher Derivatives
2013Abstract Whereas Newton’s method involves only the first derivative, methods discussed in this chapter involve the second or higher. The “classical” methods of this type (such as Halley’s, Euler’s, Hansen and Patrick’s, Ostrowski’s, Cauchy’s and Chebyshev’s) are all third order with three evaluations, so are slightly more efficient than Newton’s ...

Analytical second derivatives of the energy in MNDO methods
Journal of Computational Chemistry, 1996Analytical second derivatives of the energy are derived and efficiently implemented for semiempirical MNDO-type methods including AM1, PM3, and MNDO/d. A new algorithm for the simultaneous solution of several CPHF equations is proposed in which the amount of memory required is independent of the number of iterations.

Analytic energy derivatives in many-body methods. II. Second derivatives
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1989Second derivatives of the energy correspond to second-order response properties and molecular force constants. Currently, both the theory and application of analytic second derivatives in many-body methods are limited to second-order perturbation theory.

On second derivative-free zero finding methods
Proceedings of the 2010 American Control Conference, 2010High order root-finding algorithms are constructed from formulas for approximating higher order logarithmic and standard derivatives. These formulas are free of derivatives of second order or higher and use only function evaluation and/or first derivatives at multiple points. Richardson extrapolation technique is applied to obtain better approximations

THE SECOND DERIVATIVE METHOD OF GRAVITY INTERPRETATION
GEOPHYSICS, 1951The second derivative method of interpreting gravity data, although its use is justifiable only on data of high accuracy, offers a simple routine method of locating some types of geologic anomalies of importance in oil and mineral reconnaissance.
