Simplified operational guidance for second generation intact stability criteria
The SGISC have been developed to account for dangerous dynamic phenomena in waves. Five failure modes are defined, and a multi-layered structure, consisting of vulnerability criteria and Direct Stability Assessment, is adopted to check the ship vulnerability against each phenomenon.

Real-Time Evaluation of Second Generation Intact Stability Criteria
The performance of a vessel cannot solely be determined as a function of its size, speed and autonomy. The seakeeping behaviour of the vessel in extreme weather conditions is very difficult to predict and the IMO is in the process of introducing new intact stability regulations to deal with failure modes generally associated with extreme weather ...

Abstract The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has been actively developing the second-generation intact stability criteria of ships and discussing a technical issue. In this study, we focused on the dead ship condition and introduced the procedures of assessment for Lv1 (Level 1) and Lv2 (Level 2).

Application of the Second Generation Intact Stability Criteria in Initial Ship Design
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is revising the Intact Stability Code. The so-called second generation intact stability criteria will provide additional safety measures against stability failures in waves. The draft regulations for three failure modes, parametric roll, pure loss of stability and surf-riding/broaching are reviewed and ...

Application of the second generation intact stability criteria for fast semi displacement ships
The Second Generation Intact Stability Criteria (SGISC) are developing since 2002 after a series of naval accidents, which clearly demonstrated that actual stability criteria are not adequate to account for significant changes in the design and operation characteristics of new commercial ships.
