Second order to second order balancing for index-1 vibrational systems
2012 7th International Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering, 2012Linearizing constraint equations of motion around equilibrium points in mechanics or coupling electrical and mechanical parts in mechatronics one obtains large sparse second-order index-1 differential algebraic (DAE) models. To get reduced order models of such systems, first they can be rewritten into first-order models.

Second-order Observer for a Class of Second-Order Distributed Parameter Systems
Proceedings of the 45th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2006This note addresses the observer design problem for a class of second order distributed parameter systems. Particularly, second order distributed parameter systems without distributed damping (or non-strictly positive distributed damping) are studied. Based on finite number of measurements, exponentially stable observer is designed.

Asymptotic Integration of Second Order Systems
American Journal of Mathematics, 1994Nonlinear systems of the form (1) \((P(t,u,u') A(t,u,u'))' + Q(t,u,u') = 0\) and (2) \((A(t,u,u'))' + D(t,u,u') A(t,u,u') + Q(t,u,u') = 0\) are considered. It is proved that under appropriate conditions generalizing the ones of \textit{A. Witner} [Duke Math. J.

Second-Order Systems With Acceleration Measurements
IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 2012Accelerometers are often used to measure the output of second-order systems, such as structural vibrations. Conditions under which these systems are well-posed are obtained. We also establish conditions under which these systems have minimum-phase transfer functions.

SYNCHRONIZATION OF A CLASS OF SECOND-ORDER NONLINEAR SYSTEMS
International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2008The asymptotic behavior of a class of coupled second-order nonlinear dynamical systems is studied in this paper. Using very mild assumptions on the vector-field, conditions on the coupling parameters that guarantee synchronization are provided. The proposed result does not require solutions to be ultimately bounded in order to prove synchronization ...

Identifiability analysis of second-order systems
Nuclear Medicine and Biology, 2003Models provide a means to represent our understanding of the interaction among the components of a system. Individual instantiations of a system are captured by allowing the model to have parameters that may be different for each instantiation. Included in the model is a representation of the means to observe certain aspects of a system.

Simple systems: second-order systems
2002Physical systems, like an RC circuit, a liquid level process or a heating process, can be modelled as first-order systems. The type of step input response we obtain from these systems is a smooth exponential rise to a steady output value. For such systems we do not observe either overshoots or oscillations in the output signals.
