A minimal model for understanding secondary cosmic rays

open access: yesAdvances in Space Research, 2022
We take a phenomenological approach in a minimal model to understand the spectral intensity of secondary cosmic-ray particles like positrons, antiprotons, Lithium, Beryllium and Boron. Our analysis shows that cosmic rays at $\sim$ GeV energies pass through a significant amount of matter in regions surrounding the sources.

Production of secondary particles from cosmic ray interactions in the earth's atmosphere: Implications for annual effective dose, 14C/12C ratio, and magnetic field effects. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE
This study investigates the interaction of cosmic rays with Earth's atmosphere, focusing on the production of secondary particles, electromagnetic waves, and their dosimetric implications.

Influence of Solar Wind on Secondary Cosmic Rays and Atmospheric Electricity

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2021
A relationship between the heliospheric magnetic field, atmospheric electric field, lightning activity, and secondary cosmic rays measured on the high mount of Lomnický Štít (2,634 m a.s.l.), Slovakia, during the declining phase of the solar cycle 24 is ...

Synchronous detection of cosmic rays and correlated errors in superconducting qubit arrays [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications
Quantum information processing at scale will require sufficiently stable and long-lived qubits, likely enabled by error-correction codes. Several recent superconducting-qubit experiments, however, reported observing intermittent spatiotemporally ...

Rigorous Theory for Secondary Cosmic-Ray Ionization [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2021
Abstract The energy spectrum of electrons produced in molecular gas by interstellar cosmic rays (CRs) is rigorously calculated as a function of gas column density N traversed by the CRs. This allows us to accurately compute the local value of the secondary ionization rate of molecular hydrogen,

Exploring the Interaction of Cosmic Rays with Water by Using an Old-Style Detector and Rossi’s Method

open access: yesParticles, 2023
Cosmic ray air showers are a phenomenon that can be observed on Earth when high-energy particles from outer space collide with the Earth’s atmosphere. These energetic particles in space are called primary cosmic rays and consist mainly of protons (about ...

Origin of Spectral Hardening of Secondary Cosmic Ray Nuclei [PDF]

open access: yesActa Physica Polonica B Proceedings Supplement, 2021
Abstract We discuss the acceleration and escape of secondary cosmic-ray (CR) nuclei, such as lithium, beryllium, and boron, produced by spallation of primary CR nuclei like carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen accelerated at the shock in supernova remnants (SNRs) surrounded by the interstellar medium (ISM) or a circumstellar medium (CSM).

Hadronic interactions of primary cosmic rays with the FLUKA code [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The measured fluxes of secondary particles produced by the interactions of cosmic rays with the astronomical environment represent a powerful tool to infer some properties of primary cosmic rays.
