Propagation of ultrahigh energy nuclei in clusters of galaxies: resulting composition and secondary emissions

open access: yes, 2009
We study the survival of ultrahigh energy nuclei injected in clusters of galaxies, as well as their secondary neutrino and photon emissions, using a complete numerical propagation method and a realistic modeling of the magnetic, baryonic and photonic ...

New calculation of radioactive secondaries in cosmic rays

open access: yes, 2001
We use a new version of our numerical model for particle propagation in the Galaxy to study radioactive secondaries. For evaluation of the production cross sections we use the Los Alamos compilation of all available experimental cross sections together with calculations using the improved Cascade-Exciton Model code CEM2k.

Cosmic-ray secondary antiprotons - A closer look

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1992
An account is given of a course of study encompassing the numerous considerations involved in aircraft gas turbine system definition within an aerothermodynamic framework; these considerations range over engine cycle type, air flowpath design, control integration, inlet and exhaust integration, acoustics, survivability, reliability, and mechanical ...

Human Destiny and the Natural Law in St Maximus the Confessor: A Contribution to Orthodox Christian Humanism

open access: yesModern Theology, EarlyView.
Abstract Orthodox Christian theology in general prides itself on bearing the mantle of patristic thought. Orthodox theological anthropology is no different, often drawing on Greek patristic sources in presenting its vision of the human being. Yet Orthodox anthropology can also broadly be categorized as personalist in ways that are not necessarily so ...

Determination of intergalactic magnetic fields from gamma ray data

open access: yes, 2011
We report a measurement of intergalactic magnetic fields using combined data from Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes and Fermi Gamma-Ray Space Telescope, based on the spectral data alone.

Photodegradation of commercial insect repellents containing DEET and IR‐3535 under ultraviolet light associated or not with chemical ultraviolet filters evaluated by Raman spectroscopy

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
This study evaluated the photodegradation of commercial insect repellents containing DEET and IR‐3535 under UV‐A and UV‐B irradiation using Raman spectroscopy. Pure DEET and IR‐3535 showed intrinsic photostability, whereas DEET diluted in ethanol and a commercial DEET‐based formulation exhibited significant spectral changes after UV exposure.

Anisotropy of TeV and PeV cosmic rays with IceCube and IceTop

open access: yes, 2012
The interaction of high energy cosmic rays with the Earth's atmosphere produces extensive air showers of secondary particles with a large muon component.

Spaceborne and spaceborn: Physiological aspects of pregnancy and birth during interplanetary flight

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Crewed interplanetary return missions that are on the planning horizon will take years, more than enough time for initiation and completion of a pregnancy. Pregnancy is viewed as a sequence of processes – fertilization, blastocyst formation, implantation, gastrulation, placentation, organogenesis, gross morphogenesis, birth and neonatal ...

Influence of the source distribution on the age distribution of galactic cosmic rays [PDF]

open access: yes
The age distribution of galactic cosmic rays in the diffusion approximation is calculated. The influence of the scale height of the spatial source distribution on the mean age of particles arriving at the solar system is discussed. The broader the source

Pinpointing Cosmic Ray Propagation With The AMS-02 Experiment

open access: yes, 2010
The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS-02), which is scheduled to be deployed onboard the International Space Station later this year, will be capable of measuring the composition and spectra of GeV-TeV cosmic rays with unprecedented precision.
