A descriptive study of reading strategies for secondary education in Minnesota public schools [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Plan ALiteracy is a growing concern for students in secondary education. With the demands placed on educators to meet the standards of No Child Left Behind (NCLB), it is important to have adequate researched-based interventions for students from ...

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Identification of a Shiga toxin A‐derived peptide internalized into Gb3 receptor‐bearing cells via interaction with the Shiga toxin B subunit

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The process of internalization of the Shiga toxin A subunit via formation of a complex with the Shiga toxin B subunit, which specifically binds to the Gb3 receptor. The peptide is designed to act as a carrier of drugs into cancer cells. Here, we explored the potential of peptides derived from the catalytic A subunit of Shiga toxin (STxA) to be drug ...

Conserved binding mode but diverse interfaces of MreC‐PBP2 interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of abMreC reveals a conserved two β‐barrel architecture and provides structural insights into its role within the bacterial elongasome. The abMreC–abPBP2 complex model identifies the molecular basis of MreC‐mediated PBP2 recognition, contributing to the regulation of peptidoglycan synthesis.

ACVI-Med, an open source variant interpretation tool for medical genomics

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics
Background The adoption of whole genome and exome sequencing (WGS/WES) is expanding rapidly, yet variant interpretation remains a critical bottleneck, limiting diagnostic yield and delaying precision care.

AscF in the mycobacterial CIII–CIV supercomplex lacks metal and nucleotide binding but links malate oxidation to respiration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The mycobacterial CIII‐CIV respiratory supercomplex is an obligate assembly, encompassing several subunits of unknown functions. We have characterized the intracellular subunit AscF, and show that it is unlikely to be a sensor for metals or nucleotides, but is required for growth on nonfermentable energy sources, and likely works as an adapter for ...

Information literacy and the secondary school [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Maximising student attainment is a key issue for every secondary school. Student attainment can be improved by raising their information literacy levels. It is part of a school librarian’s role to promote these skills.
