Optimal Distributed Control for Secondary Frequency and Voltage Regulation in an Islanded Microgrid

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, 2019
This paper proposes an optimal distributed control strategy for the coordination of multiple distributed generators in an islanded microgrid (MG). A finite-time secondary frequency control approach is developed to eliminate the frequency deviation and maintain accurate active power sharing in a finite-time manner.

Distributed Event-Triggered Secondary Frequency Regulation by Sharing HESS Power in Microgrids [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Smart Grid
The fluctuated power output of renewable energy sources brings new challenges to frequency control, especially for islanded microgrids with small spinning reserves. However, energy storage systems and widespread flexible loads can be employed to the frequency regulation thanks to their flexibility of power outputs. This paper investigates the frequency

Primary and secondary frequency regulation with photovoltaic generators

2015 16th International Scientific Conference on Electric Power Engineering (EPE), 2015
With the increasing number of distributed generators which transform renewable power sources to electricity, PV generators trough invertors, when is usually difficult to make power output regulation from the primary source side, is the problem of the output power adapting according to the consumption requirements increasingly important.

An inductive-link with a regulated secondary voltage based on frequency adjustment

2012 Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2012
This paper shows a wireless powering system for implantable biomedical devices that does not need a voltage regulator inside the body. The regulated voltage is obtained in the secondary of an inductive link and is controlled by varying the operating frequency of the inductive link.

Coordinated Vehicle-to-Grid Control to Participate in Secondary Frequency Regulation

2019 IEEE Transportation Electrification Conference and Expo, Asia-Pacific (ITEC Asia-Pacific), 2019
Since a plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) fleet can behave like a storage system and earn extra money by participating in secondary frequency regulation (SFR), a proper method that coordinates all the PEVs within this fleet is required. This paper introduces a coordinated vehicle-to-grid (V2G) control method to enable a PEV aggregator to participate in ...

Cyber Network Design for Secondary Frequency Regulation: A Spectral Approach

2018 Power Systems Computation Conference (PSCC), 2018
We present a preliminary theoretical framework based on spectral graph theory that captures how the cyber topology of a distributed secondary frequency control scheme impacts the stability, optimality, and transient performance of our power system as a cyber-physical network.

The cost of curtailing wind turbines for secondary frequency regulation capacity

Energy Systems, 2013
We analyze the cost of curtailing the active power output of a wind farm to provide secondary frequency regulation capacity. We calculate the regulation capacity available and its cost by simulating the active power output of a curtailed 100-MW wind farm with a hybrid of real wind speed data and simulated high-frequency turbulence.

An inductive-link with a regulated secondary voltage based on frequency adjustment

2015 IEEE PELS Workshop on Emerging Technologies: Wireless Power (2015 WoW), 2015
This paper shows a wireless powering system for implantable biomedical devices that does not need a voltage regulator inside the body. The regulated voltage is obtained in the secondary of an inductive link and is controlled by varying the operating frequency of the inductive link.
