Bubble growth in secondary foams

Chemical Engineering & Technology, 1997
AbstractWhen mechanical foambreakers are used in chemical engineering processes to control an undesired primary foam, a secondary foam is often produced. Secondary foams consist of small bubbles, have a high liquid hold‐up, and cannot be condensed further by mechanical foambreakers.

Vascular Morphodynamics During Secondary Growth

2017
Quantification of vascular morphodynamics during secondary growth has been hampered by the scale of the process. Even in the tiny model plant Arabidopsis thaliana, the xylem can include more than 2000 cells in a single cross section, rendering manual counting impractical.

Secondary Growth (for Woody Plants)

The chapter presents the dual specificity of tree development and growth, marked by axis mortality and secondary growth. Terminal meristem death leads to the loss of leafy axes, and presents sampling challenges due to the disappearance of tree parts over time.

Unsung and understudied: plastids involved in secondary growth

Current Opinion in Plant Biology, 2018
Plastids represent the only subcellular compartment where aromatic amino acid precursors for lignin can be synthesized during secondary growth in vascular plants. Despite this, aside from a general shared understanding that plastid-localized metabolism occurs during secondary growth, virtually no research has been performed on understanding their ...

The secondary growth in plant and its molecular regulation

HEREDITAS, 2007
The secondary growth is a significant biological activity for plant development, and the secondary xylem (i.e. wood) plays an important role for human life. The secondary growth includes several consecutive processes such as vascular tissue differentiation, secondary cell wall deposition, lignification, PCD and heart wood formation.

Green Growth of the Secondary Industry

2012
The secondary industry has already scored notable achievements since the reform and opening-up in China. However, surging energy prices and worsening environmental quality has brought new challenges to the green growth of the secondary industry. This chapter, based on the features of the secondary industry’s green growth and its existing problems ...

Secondary metabolism as an expression of microbial growth and development

Folia Microbiologica, 1979
A case is made out for regarding secondary metabolism as part of normal cell growth, related to its interactions with the environment. Secondary metabolism is widespread, especially in fungi and actinomycetes, and is not to be regarded as confined to the production of antibiotics and other special substances. It is part of the normal maturation process.

Growth hormone secretion in primary and secondary hyperparathyroidism

Journal of Endocrinological Investigation, 2005
Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHP) is associated with impaired GH secretion. Whether this effect is due to hypercalcemia or to increased serum PTH concentration is unclear. However, patients with familial hypocalciuric hypercalcemia (FHH), who have normal PTH and increased serum calcium concentrations, also have an impaired GH secretion, suggesting that

The control of lens growth: Relationship to secondary cataract

Acta Ophthalmologica, 1992
Abstract A lens growth factor was identified that is present in the anterior chamber of the embryonic chicken eye. The mitogen is similar to an embryo‐specific activity found in embryo serum. Several purified growth factors, applied singly or in combination, did not stimulate cell division in embryonic lens cells.

Bioinactive Growth Hormone and Secondary Growth Hormone Deficiency

1986
It is now well established that a significant number of growth-impaired children respond to treatment with replacement doses of growth hormone (GH).(1–4) These patients, who were formerly thought to have either constitutional delay or familial short stature, are presently included in a new syndrome called the “normal variant short stature” or “GH ...
