Secondary Cell Wall Deposition in Developing Secondary Xylem of Poplar
Journal of Integrative Plant Biology, 2010Abstract Although poplar is widely used for genomic and biotechnological manipulations of wood, the cellular basis of wood development in poplar has not been accurately documented at an ultrastructural level. Developing secondary xylem cells from hybrid poplar (Populus deltoides x P.

XND1 Regulates Secondary Wall Deposition in Xylem Vessels through the Inhibition of VND Functions.
Plant and Cell Physiology, 2020Secondary wall deposition in xylem vessels is activated by Vascular-Related NAC Domain proteins (VNDs) that belong to a group of secondary wall NAC (SWN) transcription factors.

Differentiation of Secondary Xylem After Girdling
IAWA Journal, 1988Under favourable growth season and by suitable technical means, regeneration and continuous growth of new bark after girdling has been observed in many trees. Differentiation of the secondary xylem varies after arteficial treatment. Thus , the authors consider that (1) under appropriate conditions most trees could be girdled on a large scale with ...

Role of microtubules in secondary thickening of differentiating xylem element
Journal of Ultrastructure Research, 1971The ontogeny of the xylem vessel from procambial cell was studied with the aid of electron microscope. The ultrastructure of procambial cells is made of highly dense cytoplasm with abundance of endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus with numerous vesicles. Moreover, dark-staining free ribosomes completely fill the cytoplasm.

Plasmodesmata and pit development in secondary xylem elements
Planta, 1982Developing pit membranes of secondary xylem elements in Drimys winteri, Fagus sylvatica, Quercus robur, Sorbus aucuparia, Tilia vulgaris and Trochodendron aralioides have been examined by transmission electron microscopy. Absence of plasmodesmata from the membranes of vessel elements and tracheids indicates that their pits develop independently of ...

Secondary cell wall patterning during xylem differentiation
Current Opinion in Plant Biology, 2012Xylem cell differentiation involves temporal and spatial regulation of secondary cell wall deposition. The cortical microtubules are known to regulate the spatial pattern of the secondary cell wall by orientating cellulose deposition. However, it is largely unknown how the microtubule arrangement is regulated during secondary wall formation.

The Developing Architecture of Secondary Xylem in Conifers
Forest Science, 1964Abstract It is suggested, that in the formation of coniferous tracheids, the amount of cell-wall material that can be developed in the maturation of a specific cell is a function of the parentage of the cell and is fixed for that cell at the time of cell division.

On the ultrastructure of differentiating secondary xylem in willow
Protoplasma, 1968Studies of differentiating xylem inSalix fragilis L. show the immediate cambial derivatives to be ultrastructurally similar. The Golgi apparatus is important at all stages of wall synthesis, possibly producing (amongst other substances) hemicellulose material which is carried to the wall in vesicles or multivesicular bodies.

Histochemical Detection of Peroxidase and Laccase Activities in Populus Secondary Xylem
2023Peroxidases (PRXs) and laccases (LACs) are enzymes involved in catalyzing the oxidation of the lignin monomers to facilitate lignin polymerization. However, due to the large number of genes composing these two families of enzymes, many details regarding their specific localization are only partially understood.
