Foliar secretory trichomes of Ocimum obovatum (Lamiaceae): micromorphological structure and histochemistry

Plant Systematics and Evolution, 2013
This study characterises the micromorphology, ultrastructure and main chemical constituents of the foliar glandular trichomes of Ocimum obovatum using light and electron microscopy and a variety of histochemical tests. Two types of glandular trichomes occur on the leaves: large peltate and small capitate. The head of each peltate trichome is made up of

Development and histochemistry of nuclear crystals in the secretory trichome of Pharbitis nil

Journal of Ultrastructure Research, 1972
Trichomes of Pharbitis nil develop nuclear crystals at the onset of secretion. Mature crystals may reach 7 μ m in length and occupy up to 40% of the cross-sectional area of the nucleus. Concomitant with crystal growth, nucleoli undergo a 50% decrease in cross-sectional area.

SECRETORY VESICLE FORMATION IN GLANDULAR TRICHOMES OF CANNABIS SATIVA (CANNABACEAE)

American Journal of Botany, 1992
Formation of secretory vesicles in the noncellular secretory cavity of glandular trichomes of Cannabis saliva L. was examined by transmission electron microscopy. Two patterns of vesicle formation occurred during gland morphogenesis. 1) During initial phases of cavity formation small hyaline areas arose in the wall near the plasma membrane of the disc ...

Morphology, ontogeny and histochemistry of secretory trichomes of Geranium robertianum (Geraniaceae)

Nordic Journal of Botany, 1990
Geranium robertianum bears three types of glandular uniseriate trichomes which originate from a single protodermal cell and develop through periclinal divisions. Type I trichomes are procumbent and have an oval apical cell, two stalk cells and a basal cell.

Florivory in two Chamaecrista species: Are secretory trichomes effective against florivores?

Plant Species Biology, 2022
Abstract Florivory in Chamaecrista varies in occurrence, intensity, and the floral structures affected. As flowers are multifunctional units, the type of damage can impact reproductive success in different ways. Oil‐resin‐secreting trichomes, present in the sepals of

Trichomes on vegetative and reproductive organs of Stevia rebaudiana (Asteraceae) . Structure and secretory products

Plant Biosystems - An International Journal Dealing with all Aspects of Plant Biology, 2001
ABSTRACT Trichomes from vegetative and reproductive organs of Stevia rebaudiana were investigated by light and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with chemical and histochemical characterisation of the secretory product. Two types of non-glandular trichomes plus sunken glandular trichomes were found on the leaves.

Development, Structure and Function of Secretory Trichomes in Psychotria Bacteriophila (Rubiaceae)

American Journal of Botany, 1968
Mucilage‐secreting dendroid trichomes develop from the adaxial epidermis of young stipules surrounding the shoot apex. Each trichome consists of a multicellular stalk from which radiate many branch cells. The trichome has no cuticle and the branch cell walls distally are loose cellulosic frameworks.

Localization of enzymes of artemisinin biosynthesis to the apical cells of glandular secretory trichomes of Artemisia annua L.

Phytochemistry, 2009
A method based on the laser microdissection pressure catapulting technique has been developed for isolation of whole intact cells. Using a modified tissue preparation method, one outer pair of apical cells and two pairs of sub-apical, chloroplast-containing cells, were isolated from glandular secretory trichomes of Artemisia annua. A.

Glandular Trichomes of Artemisia campestris (ssp. Maritima): Ontogeny and Histochemistry of the Secretory Product

Botanical Gazette, 1987
The glandular trichomes of Artemisia campestris (ssp. maritima) originate from a single protodermal cell and develop through an anticlinal and several periclinal divisions. These multicellular and biseriate trichomes have a secretory head with three pairs of cells, two stalk cells, and two basal cells.
