Measuring Similarity for Security Vulnerabilities
2010 43rd Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, 2010As the number of software vulnerabilities increases year by year, software vulnerability becomes a focusing point in information security. This paper proposes a vulnerability similarity measurement to compare different vulnerabilities according to a set of criteria.

Security Measurements of Steganographic Systems
2004Different security measurements for a steganographic system, i.e. security (detectability), robustness and secrecy (difficulty of extraction), are discussed in this paper. We propose a new measurement for the security of stegosystems using variational distance which can upper bound the advantage for passive attackers.

On measures of information theoretic security
2014 IEEE Information Theory Workshop (ITW 2014), 2014While information-theoretic security is stronger than computational security, it has long been considered impractical. In this work, we provide new insights into the design of practical information-theoretic cryptosystems. Firstly, from a theoretical point of view, we give a brief introduction into the existing information theoretic security criteria ...

The measure of security in quantum cryptography
2012 IEEE Global Communications Conference (GLOBECOM), 2012This paper describes a new concept of security measurement in quantum cryptography (QC). The most popular quantum key distribution protocol BB84 and the key distillation process are briefly introduced first. Next, a new concept of entropy of security in QC is proposed, and a unique measure of security is defined.

Quality of security metrics and measurements
Computers & Security, 2013Quantification of information security can be used to obtain evidence to support decision-making about the security performance of software systems. Knowledge about the relational importance of the main quality criteria of security metrics can help build security metrology models based on practical needs.

Floppy diskette security measures
Computers & Security, 1985Abstract Information security — a broader term than computer security — encompasses the safeguarding of information wherever it resides and whatever form it takes. Information security accordingly includes consideration of information residing in file cabinets, voice communications networks, and other places outside computers.

Steering Security through Measurement
2009This paper presents the results of a security management survey of IT administrators from small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) who ranked predefined Critical Success Factors (CSFs) and Indicators. The outcome of this study relies on the development of a set of security management guidelines that allows IT administrators to adopt assessment and ...
