Escape from TGF‐β‐induced senescence promotes aggressive hallmarks in epithelial hepatocellular carcinoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Chronic TGF‐β exposure drives epithelial HCC cells from a senescent state to a TGF‐β resistant mesenchymal phenotype. This transition is characterized by the loss of Smad3‐mediated signaling, escape from senescence, enhanced invasiveness and metastatic potential, and upregulation of key resistance modulators such as MARK1 and GRM8, ultimately promoting

Modelling suspended sediment in environmental turbulent fluids [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
Modelling sediment transport in environmental turbulent fluids is a challenge. This article develops a sound model of the lateral transport of suspended sediment in environmental fluid flows such as floods and tsunamis. The model is systematically derived from a 3D turbulence model based on the Smagorinski large eddy closure.

Constraints from Thorium/Lanthanum on Sediment Recycling at Subduction Zones and the Evolution of the Continents

open access: yes, 2005
Arc magmas and the continental crust share many chemical features, but a major question remains as to whether these features are created by subduction or are recycled from subducting sediment.

Discharge and turbidity of the regulated River Tees. Variance spectrum analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
High suspended sediment loads may be deleterious to adult salmonids and invertebrates in gravel-bedded streams. Further, the accumulation of fine material in the interstices of the gravel may have an adverse impact on the recruitment of the young stages ...

Targeting the AKT/mTOR pathway attenuates the metastatic potential of colorectal carcinoma circulating tumor cells in a murine xenotransplantation model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dual targeting of AKT and mTOR using MK2206 and RAD001 reduces tumor burden in an intracardiac colon cancer circulating tumor cell xenotransplantation model. Analysis of AKT isoform‐specific knockdowns in CTC‐MCC‐41 reveals differentially regulated proteins and phospho‐proteins by liquid chromatography coupled mass spectrometry. Circulating tumor cells

Sedimentation and diffusion of passive particles in suspensions of swimming Escherichia coli [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Sedimentation in active fluids has come into focus due to the ubiquity of swimming micro-organisms in natural and artificial environments. Here, we experimentally investigate sedimentation of passive particles in water containing various concentrations of the bacterium E. coli.

Evaluation of Sampling Methods for Robotic Sediment Sampling Systems [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Analysis of sediments from rivers, lakes, reservoirs, wetlands and other constructed surface water impoundments is an important tool to characterize the function and health of these systems, but is generally carried out manually. This is costly and can be hazardous and difficult for humans due to inaccessibility, contamination, or availability of ...

Evaluation of the utility of sediment data in NASQAN (National Stream Quality Accounting Network) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
Monthly suspended sediment discharge measurements, made by the USGS as part of the National Stream Quality Accounting Network (NASQAN), are analysed to assess the adequacy in terms of spatial coverage, temporal sampling frequency, accuracy of ...

Interplay of integrins and selectins in metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Here we review the role of integrins and their interplay with selectins in metastasis. The efficacy of integrin‐targeted therapies may be reduced in tumors where metastasis relies heavily on selectins. In certain tumors, integrins and selectins exhibit a synergistic interaction during intraperitoneal dissemination.
