Estimation of suspended-sediment rating curves and mean suspended-sediment loads

Journal of Hydrology, 1991
Suspended-sediment loads are often estimated from an empirical relation between suspended-sediment load (L) and streamflow (S). This relation is usually defined as a power function, L = aSb, and is referred to as a suspended-sediment rating curve. This function can be formulated as either a linear or non-linear model to find the solution of the rating ...

Development of Integrated Sediment Rating Curves Using ANNs

Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 2001
Correct estimation of sediment volume being carried by a river is very important for many water resources projects. Conventional sediment rating curves, however, are not able to provide sufficiently accurate results. Artificial neural networks (ANNs) are a simplied mathematical representation of the functioning of the human brain.

Channel Geometry Controls Downstream Lags in Sediment Rating Curves

Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 2018
AbstractIn transport-limited alluvial streams, the suspended sediment concentration C exhibits power functional relationships with the flow discharge Q at a given station.

Use of the Lorenz Curve to Quantify Statistical Nonuniformity of Sediment Transport Rate

Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 2009
The Lorenz curve and the Gini index are statistical tools that have been widely used to quantify nonuniformity in economics, ecology, and medicine, but have apparently not been previously applied in hydraulic engineering. In this work, the Lorenz curve was applied to the analysis of sediment transport data from several experiments with natural and ...

An investigation of suspended sediment rating curves in western and northern Greece

Hydrological Sciences Journal, 1982
ABSTRACT The suspended sediment rating curves for six stations on four rivers in western and northern Greece are investigated. For each station the suspended sediment load is a power function of the water discharge, which may be distinguished according to wet and dry seasons; the latter yields higher sediment loads for a given discharge than the former.

An Evaluation of the Use of Suspended Sediment Rating Curves for the Prediction of Suspended Sediment Concentration in a Proglacial Stream

Geografiska Annaler. Series A, Physical Geography, 1985
ABSTRACTHourly observations of stream discharge and suspended sediment concentration obtained during parts of 1978 and 1981 from the proglacial stream of the glacier de Tsidjiore Nouve, Valais, Switzerland, are used to investigate the usefulness of suspended sediment rating curves.

Sediment handling at run-of-river projects in Himalayan rivers using sediment rating curves

Nepalese Journal of Engineering, 2005
Most of the Himalayan rivers are characterized by young and fragile geology with steep catchment. The incessant and stochastic character of rainfall in the mountain catchment generates enormous amount of sediment in these rivers. Not only the higher sediment concentration but also the domination of hard minerals such as quartz have caused severe damage
