Compartmented Sediment Trap

Journal of the Hydraulics Division, 1979
A method for measuring sediment transport is presented. The measurement device is a portable, compartmented, bottom trap that is operated by burying the trap in the stream bed, waiting until the natural bedforms are reestablished, and then opening the trap during a time interval sufficient to collect a large number of moving particles.

Sediment trap comparison experiments

Journal of the Oceanographical Society of Japan, 1986
Four types of sediment traps which are different in their shapes were simultaneously deployed in Funka Bay, Hokkaido or open ocean, in order to compare the quantity and quality of settling particles collected at the same time. In Funka Bay, the larger total particulate fluxes were observed with the sediment traps having the larger height to width ...

Sediment trap assemblages — a methodological description

Hydrobiologia, 1989
A short description is given of the theory and use of sediment traps in the context of fine sediment dynamics. The technical construction of the sediment trap device has been examined earlier. Sediment traps yield data on rates of sedimentation and provide a means of estimating redeposition and resuspension.

A new multisample sediment trap

Marine Biology, 1978
A sediment trap is described which can be used in open ocean moorings or as a freefloating version. With this sediment trap, 8 successive samples of settled particulate material can be obtained. The collecting interval can be set to any appropriate time period.

Soil Conservation Through Sediment Trapping: A Review

Land Degradation & Development, 2014
AbstractPreventing the off‐site effects of soil erosion is an essential part of good catchment management. Most efforts are in the form of on‐site soil and water conservation measures. However, sediment trapping can be an alternative (additional) measure to prevent the negative off‐site effects of soil erosion.

Chernobyl radionuclides in a Black Sea sediment trap

Nature, 1987
The Chernobyl nuclear power station accident released large quantities of vaporized radionuclides, and, to a lesser extent, mechanically released small (less than 1-10 micron) aerosol particles. The total release of radioactivity is estimated to be out of the order of 1-2 x 10(18) Bq (3-5 x 10(7) Ci) not allowing for releases of the xenon and krypton ...

Sediment Trapping at Florida’s East Coast Inlets

1988
In response to the need to evaluate the coastal sedimentary budget, sediment volumes associated with nineteen tidal inlets along the east coast of Florida have been estimated. Significant regions examined were ebb and flood shoals, the adjacent beaches, and the sources and placement areas for dredged material.

Flow in Cylindrical Sediment Traps

Journal of Great Lakes Research, 1988
Abstract Flow behavior in cylindrical settling traps was observed in steady flow for trap Reynolds numbers (Re) between 1,600–30,500. The effects due to aspect ratio, wall thickness, a funnel at the bottom of the trap, and the presence of a mooring line were investigated.

Hydraulic Test of Streamer Sediment Trap

Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 1988
A laboratory experiment was performed to optimize the hydraulic efficiency of a portable net-type sediment trap, called the streamer trap, developed for use in the sandy coastal environment. Twenty-two trap nozzles were tested in bottom boundary flow and uniform flow water speeds in the range of 22 cm/s to 76 cm/s, and efficiencies were compared to ...

The MSL-110 small sediment trap

Oceanology, 2011
A simple construction of the MSL-110 sediment trap developed at the Laboratory of Physical-Geological Research of the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology, Russian Academy of Sciences, is presented. The trap is easily assembled from standard parts available at stores. The trap is easy to use, reliable, and inexpensive.
