Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

The global Sediment Budgets in Cold Environments (SEDIBUD) Programme: Coordinated studies of sedimentary fluxes and budgets in changing cold environments

open access: yes, 2012
Projected climate change in cold environments is expected to alter melt-season duration and intensity, along with the number of extreme rainfall events, total annual precipitation and the balance between snowfall and rainfall. In addition, changes to the

Counterion Dependent Side‐Chain Relaxation Stiffens a Chemically Doped Thienothiophene Copolymer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Oxidation of a thienothiophene copolymer, p(g3TT‐T2), via different doping strategies and dopant molecules resulted in materials with similar oxidation levels and a high electrical conductivity of ≈100 S cm−1. However, mechanical properties varied significantly, with sub‐glass transition temperatures and elastic moduli spanning from –44°C to –3°C and ...

Sources of the Aeolian Material in Periglacial Conditions Based on Quartz Grain Analysis, Ebba Valley, Svalbard

open access: yesQuaestiones Geographicae
The research conducted in this study is an attempt to quantitatively and qualitatively supplement the still insufficient knowledge on aeolian processes under polar conditions, where some of the most visible and dynamic climate changes are occurring. This

Anthropogenic factors driving phosphorus contents in salto grande reservoir sediments, Săo Paulo state (se Brazil) / Influência antropogênica nas concentraçơes de fósforo dos sedimentos do reservatório de salto grande, estado de Săo Paulo (se Brasil)

open access: yes, 2018
Phosphorus is an essential element for life and, when scarce, this macronutrient is a limiting factor for primary production. Phosphorus (P) is a widely used element in the composition of fertilizers, besides being present in large quantities in domestic

From Food to Power: Hydrogel Thermoelectrics for Ingestible Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a fully edible thermoelectric–electrochromic platform that harvests heat from food and converts it into a visible color change. N‐type and p‐type hydrogel thermoelectric generators connected in series power anthocyanin‐based electrochromic displays, demonstrating the feasibility of safe, biodegradable, ingestible systems for on‐food ...

Hydrocarbon-generating characteristics of Xujiahe coal-bearing source rocks in the continuous sedimentary environment of the Southwest Sichuan

open access: yesOpen Geosciences
The characteristics of coal-bearing source rocks in the continuous sedimentary environment of the Xujiahe Formation are discussed in the Southwest Sichuan through the thermal simulation and organic geochemical experiments, and the quantitative ...

The interplay between magmatic and sedimentary processes on Noachian Mars and its implications for habitability

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences
The Noachian epoch (∼4.1–3.7 Ga) on Mars was a formative period of its evolution marked by intense magmatic activity, pervasive surface weathering, and the extensive deposition of sedimentary deposits.

Liquid Phase Transmission Electron Microscopy: A Window into the Early Stages of Complex Material Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid‐phase transmission electron microscopy enables direct observation of nucleation and growth processes in solution. This review is dedicated to the remembrance of Helmut Cölfen and highlights recent studies on complex materials—oxides, biominerals, organic–inorganic crystals—which were central to his research activity. It summarizes key milestones,
