Bio‐mediated cementation of supratidal beach sediments associated with groundwater springs

open access: yesSedimentology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The formation of beachrock, sensu stricto, via carbonate precipitation in the intertidal zone is widespread throughout the tropics and subtropics. While cementation of supratidal beach sediments has also been noted in several locations, it has received much less attention.

Microbial mats in dinosaur ichnocoenoses

open access: yesSedimentology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Until now, the significance of microbial mats in preservation of dinosaur tracks and in reconstructing the palaeoenvironment in which dinosaurs roamed was rarely studied. Dinosaur tracks are commonly found close to ancient aquatic bodies where moist sediment had once allowed footstep registration.

Microbial mats and thalassinid shrimp: Spatial and geochemical interactions in a modern intertidal environment

open access: yesSedimentology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This research examines the spatial and geochemical interactions between mat‐forming microorganisms and thalassinid shrimp in an intertidal flat situated on the shores of Willapa Bay, Washington, USA. The study serves as a contemporary analog for the relationships between mats and burrowing organisms in deep time.

A Study on the Sedimentary Environment and Facies Model of Triassic Carbonate Rocks in the Mangeshlak Basin

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Based on drilling, core and seismic data, combined with the regional tectonic sedimentary evolution background, the sedimentary environment of the Triassic carbonate rocks in the Mangeshlak Basin was studied.

Microbially generated ferruginous crusts: A potential biosignature of continental input in coastal settings

open access: yesSedimentology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Thin ferruginous sandy crusts are common on top of sandstone beds in the Early Permian post‐glacial deposits of the Paraná Basin in southern Brazil. These crusts usually preserve wrinkle structures, suggesting that they might be a product of microbial mediation.

TRAZAS FOSILES EN BARRAS SUBMAREALES DE LA FORMACION BALCARCE (CAMBRICO/ORDOVlCICO), CABO CORRIENTES, MAR DEL PLATA, ARGENTINA

open access: yesPublicación Electrónica de la Asociación Paleontológica Argentina, 2015
Cambrian/Ordovician trace fossil assemblages from the Balcarce Formation are described. In the Cabo Corrientes outcrops at the Atlantic coast, four sedimentary facies are distinguished as follows: a) Pebble Sandstone Facies with progradation surfaces and

Sedimentary environment and facies types of Eocene Baoshi Formation in Pingbei area, Pinghu slope belt, Xihu Sag, East China Sea Basin

open access: yesShiyou shiyan dizhi
The unclear understanding of the sedimentary environment and facies of the Baoshi Formation in the Pingbei area of the Pinghu slope belt, Xihu Sag, East China Sea Basin, has restricted the evaluation of the Baoshi Formation reservoirs and source rocks in

Cryogenian Glacial Erosion and Tectonics as Agents of Crustal Recycling

open access: yesTerra Nova, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Zircon preserves evidence of recycling processes that link surface environments to the mantle. Combined δ18O‐εHf in zircon fingerprints magmatic sources and tracks how crustal material is reworked over time. We apply statistical analyses to a global compilation that apparently resolves shifts in zircon U–Pb, δ18O, and Lu‐Hf data spanning the ...
