Earthquakes and the Metamorphic Sole of the Tinos Ophiolite, Cyclades, Greece

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract We analyze deformation fabrics, compositions of melts, metamorphic temperatures, and paleopiezometric data beneath the Tsiknias Thrust, Tinos, Greece, which formed part of the plate boundary that, in Late‐Cretaceous time, absorbed convergence between Africa and Europe associated with final closure of the Vardar Ocean.

Multiple Subduction–Exhumation Cycles and Episodic Hydration–Metasomatism of an Oceanic Eclogite Block: Implications for Thermal Structure Evolution and Mass Transfer at the Subduction Interface

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract The rarity of natural rocks that specifically record the physicochemical conditions of the subduction interface strongly hampers pertinent studies on metamorphic trajectories of high‐pressure (HP) rocks and related fluid–rock interactions. This study examines an oceanic eclogite block from the Huwan shear zone in the Hong'an orogen.

Multistage Evolution and Inheritance in a Magma‐Poor Conjugate Margin: Insights From Serpentinized Peridotites of the Newfoundland Margin (ODP Hole 1277A)

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract The nature of mantle sections exhumed at magma‐poor rifted margins remains poorly constrained, largely because direct sampling of mantle in modern passive margins is exceptionally rare. The Iberia–Newfoundland system is unique in providing drilled mantle rocks on both conjugate margins, offering an unprecedented glimpse into mantle ...

Subduction Recycling and Closure of the Paleo‐Asian Ocean in the Beishan Orogen: Constraints From the Niujuanzi Ophiolitic Mélange and Associated Intrusions

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Ophiolitic mélanges and associated intrusions provide key archives for reconstructing the evolution of ancient ocean basins and subduction‐related mantle modification. The Hongliuhe–Niujuanzi–Xichangjing ophiolitic mélange in the central Beishan Orogen preserves important records of the Paleo‐Asian Ocean, but the timing of oceanic subduction ...

The Wilson Cycle of the North Altyn Ocean: A Record of Subduction Initiation, Slab Rollback, and Final Closure

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract The North Altyn ophiolitic belt was formed by the subduction–closure of the Altyn segment of the Proto–Tethys Ocean and recorded the accretion of Tarim to northern Gondwana, but the timing of initial subduction and detailed tectonic transition processes remain poorly constrained. This study reports the oldest Phanerozoic magmatic record of 537

Role of Post‐Collisional Magmatism in Continental Growth and Reworking Since the Late Archean

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract The mechanisms responsible for the formation and compositional evolution of continental crust remain central questions in Earth science. Post‐collisional magmatism is widely preserved in the continental record; however, its contribution to crustal growth may be underestimated because enriched isotopic signatures obscure juvenile mantle input ...

Hydrothermal Vent Complexes Associated With the Infinity Sill (Vøring Basin, Offshore Norway)

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract The emplacement of igneous sill intrusions induces rapid heating of host rocks, generating fluids that migrate through structures known as hydrothermal vent complexes (HTVCs). While sill geometry and permeability are considered important factors controlling fluid migration around igneous sill intrusions, the precise mechanisms controlling vent

Cambrian Stage 3 Paleomagnetism of the South China Block: Implications for Early Paleozoic Gondwana Reconstructions

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract The paleogeographic position of the South China Block (SCB) during the early Paleozoic and its affiliation with Gondwana remain debated. We report new high‐quality paleomagnetic data from sandstone‐dominated Cambrian Stage 3 strata correlated with the Yu'anshan–Hongjingshao succession collected along the southwestern margin of the SCB ...

3D Architecture of Kodiak Butte as Evidence of Fluvial or Shoal‐Water Environments in Jezero Crater, Mars

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets, Volume 131, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract The Mars 2020 mission has explored depositional environments recorded in a fan‐shaped deposit on the western side of Jezero crater. Kodiak butte is an isolated outcrop of sedimentary rock ∼1 km south of the western fan scarp and may be an erosional remnant of said fan.

Subsurface Hydrocarbon Biodegradation in the Context of Microbial Habitability and Hydrogeologic, Thermal, and Geologic Evolution of the Colorado Plateau

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences, Volume 131, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Subsurface microbial ecosystems associated with hydrocarbon reservoirs are shaped by temperature, salinity, redox gradients, and fluid flow. However, the drivers of microbial activity and hydrocarbon biodegradation over geologic timescales remain poorly constrained.
