Multifractal analysis of the pore space of real and simulated sedimentary rocks [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
It is well known that sedimentary rocks having same porosity can have very different pore size distribution. The pore distribution determines many characteristics of the rock among which, its transport property is often the most useful. Multifractal analysis is a powerful tool that is increasingly used to characterize the pore space.

Sedimentary Environment, Diagenesis, Sequence Stratigraphy, and Reservoir Quality of the Ilam Formation in Dezful Embayment and Abadan Plain in South-West Iran [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
The Ilam Formation Cenomanian to Santonian in age is considered one of the main rock reservoirs of the Bangestan Group in the southwest of Iran. This formation mostly consists of carbonate rocks. To examine the sedimentary environment, diagenesis, sequence stratigraphy, and reservoir quality of Ilam Formation in Dezful embayment and Abadan Plain, four ...

Analysis of high-resolution airborne-magnetic data for hydrocarbon generation and preservation potential evaluation of Yola sub-basins, northern Benue Trough, northeastern Nigeria

open access: yesEnergy Geoscience, 2023
High-resolution airborne-magnetic data acquired over the Yola extension of the northern Benue Trough, northeastern Nigeria, were analyzed to delineate rock distribution, define basement geometry, determine sedimentary thicknesses, and highlight ...

The chromian marbles of Kittilä, Finnish Lapland [PDF]

open access: yesBulletin of the Geological Society of Finland, 1978
The volcano-sedimentary rock association at Kittilä is characterized in many places by the presence of green-colored fuchsite-bearing ferroan dolomite-quartz rocks, locally called chromian marbles.

A Bio‐Inspired Perspective on Materials Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This perspective discusses natural materials as inspiration for sustainable engineering designs and the processing of materials. First, circularity, longevity, parsimony, and activity are presented as essential material paradigms. The perspective then uses many examples of natural and technical materials to introduce principles such as oligo ...

U and Th content in the Central Apennines continental crust: a contribution to the determination of the geo-neutrinos flux at LNGS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The regional contribution to the geo-neutrino signal at Gran Sasso National Laboratory (LNGS) was determined based on a detailed geological, geochemical and geophysical study of the region. U and Th abundances of more than 50 samples representative of the main lithotypes belonging to the Mesozoic and Cenozoic sedimentary cover were analyzed ...

The characteristics of Precambrian sedimentary basin and the distribution of deep source rock: A case study of Tarim Basin in Neoproterozoic and source rocks in Early Cambrian, Western China

open access: yesPetroleum Exploration and Development, 2016
Based on outcrops of the whole basin, drilling and seismic data, this paper makes a systematic analysis of Neoproterozoic basin stratigraphic distribution and tectonic evolution characteristics in Tarim.

Natural Radioactivity Measurements and Radiation Dose Estimation in Some Sedimentary Rock Samples in Turkey

open access: yes, 2014
The natural radioactivity existed since creation of the universe due to the long life time of some radionuclides. This natural radioactivity is caused by γ-radiation originating from the uranium and thorium series and 40K.

Functional Biomaterials Derived from Protein Liquid–Liquid Phase Separation and Liquid‐to‐Solid Transition

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Protein can undergo liquid–liquid phase separation and liquid‐to‐solid transition to form liquid condensates and solid aggregates. These phase transitions can be influenced by post‐translational modifications, mutations, and various environmental factors.

Crater mound formation by wind erosion on Mars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Most of Mars' ancient sedimentary rocks by volume are in wind-eroded sedimentary mounds, but the connections between mound form and wind erosion are unclear. We perform mesoscale simulations of different crater and mound morphologies to understand the formation of sedimentary mounds. As crater depth increases, slope winds produce increased erosion near
