Transformation of benzonitriles in anaerobic sediment and in sediment extract
Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, 1995Abstract Transformations of para-substituted benzonitriles in sediment and in sediment extract were studied. In raw anaerobic sediment, most of the benzonitriles were transformed to benzoic acids without benzamide intermediates. Very slow disappearance of benzonitrile in autoclave-sterilized sediment was explained by the chemical ...

The Basic Nature of Carbonate Sediments and Sedimentation
2013Abstract The biological influence over the origin, distribution, composition, texture, and mineralogy of carbonate sediments is stressed. Environmental factors such as light, temperature, and water depth directly affect these biological processes. Abiotic carbonate precipitation is discussed.

The Journal of Architecture, 2010
This paper explores how architecture can embody the past. In the context of Berlin—the site of much prominent contemporary memorial architecture—it examines one project in detail: Reitermann and Sassenroth's widely overlooked Chapel of Reconciliation, completed in 2000. This building, I argue, demonstrates a distinctive and critically acute approach to

Frozen sediments and previously-frozen sediments
Geological Society, London, Special Publications, 2011Abstract Frozen surficial sediments that are otherwise unconsolidated contain structures and characteristics that are different from those of the same sediments when in an unfrozen state. These differences are usually related to either the nature of the ice contained within the frozen sediment or to weathering processes and chemical ...

Sedimentation and Sediment Resuspension in Lake Ontario
Journal of Great Lakes Research, 1985From March to November 1981, seasonal variations in the weekly sedimentation rates of particulate matter were investigated at an inshore and at an offshore site in Lake Ontario. Sedimentation rates at both sites showed extremely high variability from week to week; minimum to maximum rates varied by a factor of 10 for the offshore site and by a factor ...

1989
The science of sedimentology was revolutionized in 1948, when the concept of turbidity-current transport and deposition was introduced by Kuenen and Migliorini(1950). Turbidity currents, which are not observable in nature, are supposedly generated by submarine slides of catastrophic proportion.
