Prospecting the protein design landscape

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review outlines the current state of various protein design approaches. We discuss the current possibilities enabled by recently released tools, highlight future avenues to pursue in protein design, and underscore the crucial role of key databases and resources for successful protein design workflows.

Heavy metal distribution in recent sediments along the Tietê River basin (São Pauro, Brazil) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The distribution of heavy metals in recent sediments deposited along the Tietê River, a highly polluted river in southeast region of Brazil was studied.

Hydrothermal sediments record changes in deep water oxygen content in the SE Pacific

open access: yes, 2010
The distribution of redox?sensitive metals in sediments is potentially a proxy for past ocean ventilation and productivity, but deconvolving these two major controls has proved difficult to date.

Natural and anthropogenic lead in sediments of the Rotorua lakes, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Global atmospheric sources of lead have increased more than 100-fold over the past century as a result of deforestation, coal combustion, ore smelting and leaded petroleum. Lead compounds generally accumulate in depositional areas across the globe where,

The heterodimeric amino acid transporters (HAT) of the SLC7/SLC3 family: A structure−function relationships and relevance to human pathology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Heterodimeric amino acid transporters consist of SLC7 and SLC3 family proteins arranged in a conserved structural organization. They regulate nutrient transport across cell membranes, supporting essential cellular functions. These transporters also contribute to xenobiotic/drug uptake and distribution.

Intrinsic and scattering attenuations of the Sichuan-Yunnan region in China from S coda wavesKey points

open access: yesEarthquake Science
Seismic attenuation is a fundamental property of the Earth's media. Attenuation structure for the complicated geological structures with strong seismicity in the Sichuan-Yunnan region is poorly studied. In this study, we collected 108,399 waveforms of 11,

The Bivalve Corbicula fluminalis (Müller, 1774): an Indicator for Heavy Metals Accumulation in the Habitat of Zayandeh-Roud River [PDF]

open access: yesبوم‌شناسی آبزیان, 2016
The accumulation of the heavy metals Cd, Zn, Cu, and Pb were surveyed in the samples of mantle tissues, crusts and so the habitat sediments of C. fluminalis to reveal the probable biomonitoring rule of the bivalve in the ecosystem.

A context‐dependent modulatory role for eIF6 in acquired resistance to vemurafenib in melanoma

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Acquired resistance to vemurafenib upregulates the translation factor eIF6 in melanoma cells. Silencing eIF6 in resistant cells reduces proliferation and partially restores drug sensitivity, whereas its overexpression increases sensitivity across melanoma lines regardless of BRAF status, via modulation of mTOR, S6K, and MAPK signaling.

Use of mineral magnetic concentration data as a particle size proxy: a case study using marine, estuarine and fluvial sediments in the Carmarthen Bay area, South Wales, U.K. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Compositional (non-magnetic) data can correlate strongly with particle size, which deems it appropriate as a particle size proxy and, therefore, a reliable means of normalising analytical data for particle size effects.

Moment magnitude of Myanmar earthquake on March 28, 2025 from long-period seismic codaKey points

open access: yesEarthquake Science
On March 28, 2025, a large earthquake struck central Myanmar and caused massive damage and casualties. The magnitude of the mainshock is a fundamental parameter that both the general public and scientific communities are concerned about.
