Current Opinion in Plant Biology, 2002
Seed dormancy and germination are complex adaptive traits of higher plants that are influenced by a large number of genes and environmental factors. Studies of genetics and physiology have shown the important roles of the plant hormones abscisic acid and gibberellin in the regulation of dormancy and germination.

Molecular mechanisms of seed dormancy
Plant, Cell and Environment, 2012ABSTRACTSeed dormancy is an important component of plant fitness that causes a delay of germination until the arrival of a favourable growth season. Dormancy is a complex trait that is determined by genetic factors with a substantial environmental influence. Several of the tissues comprising a seed contribute to its final dormancy level.

Dormancy Regulation in Peach Seeds
Science, 1966An inhibitor of seed germination was isolated from the integuments of Lovell peach seeds. Evidence from chromatographic analysis, from studies of its absorption of ultraviolet light and from assays on its effects on plant growth, indicate that the inhibitor is, if not identical with, dormin.

Molecular Aspects of Seed Dormancy
Annual Review of Plant Biology, 2008Seed dormancy provides a mechanism for plants to delay germination until conditions are optimal for survival of the next generation. Dormancy release is regulated by a combination of environmental and endogenous signals with both synergistic and competing effects.

Dormancy of the Seed in the Groundnut
Madras Agricultural Journal, 1948Dormancy is characteristic of seeds. Agricultural crops and refers to the resting period required give complete germination on sowing from the time of matu.rka. harvest. Seeds of certain varieties of plants are dormant and r some resting period for germination while others are non-dormanta. sprout if sown soon after harvest.

Chromatin Dynamics During Seed Dormancy
2011The chromatin structure determines gene expression and thereby regulates developmental processes in the plant. The molecular mechanisms regulating the induction and release of seed dormancy are still largely unknown and the underlying changes in chromatin organization have hardly been analyzed.
