Melatonin inhibits seed germination by crosstalk with abscisic acid, gibberellin, and auxin in Arabidopsis

Journal of Pineal Research, 2021
Seed germination, an important developmental stage in the life cycle of seed plants, is regulated by complex signals. Melatonin is a signaling molecule associated with seed germination under stressful conditions, although the underlying regulatory ...

Seed dormancy and germination

Current Opinion in Plant Biology, 2002
Seed dormancy and germination are complex adaptive traits of higher plants that are influenced by a large number of genes and environmental factors. Studies of genetics and physiology have shown the important roles of the plant hormones abscisic acid and gibberellin in the regulation of dormancy and germination.

Selection of sensitive seeds for evaluation of compost maturity with the seed germination index.

Waste Management, 2021
The seed germination index (GI) is a widely used indicator of compost maturity and is a required index in many national standards. However, seeds of different species vary markedly in sensitivity to the biological toxicity of compost. Therefore, suitable

Nitric oxide alleviates salt stress in seed germination and early seedling growth of pakchoi (Brassica chinensis L.) by enhancing physiological and biochemical parameters.

Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety, 2020
The germination and seedling vigor of crops is negatively affected by soil salinity. Nitric oxide (NO) has emerged as a key molecule involved in many physiological events in plants.

Impact of polystyrene nanoplastics (PSNPs) on seed germination and seedling growth of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.).

Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2019
Microplastics and nanoplastics are emerging pollutants of global concern. However, the understanding of their ecological effects on terrestrial plants is still limited. We conducted the systematic research to reveal the impact of polystyrene nanoplastics

Cross-talk between nitric oxide, hydrogen peroxide and calcium in salt-stressed Chenopodium quinoa Willd. At seed germination stage.

Plant physiology and biochemistry : PPB, 2020
Seed germination is critical for successful crop production and this growth stage can be very sensitive to salt stress depending on the plant's tolerance mechanisms.

Effect of Penicillin on Seed Germination

Science, 1946
The substances present in therapeutic penicillin which cause inhibition of germination and root growth are represented by the indole-3-acetic acid type of compound. Since this and phenylacetic acid were known to be present in the penicillin tested, it is concluded that they are responsible for the inhibition activity against seeds.

Factors affecting germination in seeds and seed germination practices

2023
