Finding overlapping communities using seed set

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 2017
Abstract The local optimization algorithm using seed set to find overlapping communities has become more and more a significant method, but it is a great challenge how to choose a good seed set. In this paper, a new method is proposed to achieve the choice of candidate seed sets, and yields a new algorithm to find overlapping communities in complex ...

Genetic basis of seed setting in alfalfa

Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1978
The genetic basis of seed setting was evaluated in seven clones of alfalfa selected under predominantly self-pollinating conditions. They were hand crossed in all possible combinations. Their compatibility was studied by the percentage of flowers forming pods and number of seeds per pod during crossing. The variances for GCA, SCA and reciprocal effects

Improvement of seed set and seed germination in apple

1994
To improve seed set and seed germination in the apple cultivar Elstar, the influences of the number of pollinated stigmas per flower, the number of flowers per cluster and the pollinator were studied.

OLIVE SEED SET AND ITS IMPACT ON SEED AND FRUIT WEIGHT

Acta Horticulturae, 2002
Pistillate olive flowers bear at anthesis four viable equally sized ovules. In spite of that, olive fruit is typically a one-seeded drupe. Preliminary observations, however, disclosed that some cultivars sometimes form fruits containing two seeds. In this study we compared seed set on five olive cultivars and we found maternal (cultivar) and paternal ...

Foliar Boron Application Improves Seed Set, Seed Yield, and Seed Quality of Alfalfa

Agronomy Journal, 2006
Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) is one of the most important forage crops worldwide because of its good forage quality and high adaptability. Seed yield is generally considered to be of secondary importance and is characterized by fluctuating yields with often poor seed yield and seed quality.

Generating seeded trees from data sets

1995
In this paper we study the problem of how to perform spatial joins between two data sets with no pre-computed spatial indices. No techniques appear to exist to date that specifically target this problem. Our solution is also useful in the context of query optimization for complex spatial queries.

Factors affecting capsule and seed set in Eucalyptus globulus seed orchards

2023
Low capsule seed set is a major factor limiting seed production in Eucalyptus globulus seed orchards. Trials were conducted in two Tasmanian E. globulus seed orchards to identify mechanisms involved in capsule abortion and low reproductive success. Key areas of investigation included identification of the timing of abortion relative to stage of capsule

Augmented label propagation for seed set expansion

Knowledge-Based Systems, 2019
Abstract In many applications such as social network analysis and recommendation systems, it is of particular interest to identify a group of similar nodes/users/items. However, in networks of massive size, manual labeling process becomes intractable.

Seed set selection in evolving social networks

2017 3rd IEEE International Conference on Computer and Communications (ICCC), 2017
With the popularity of social network sites, a huge volume of data has been produced. Motivated by the value of big data, a number of organizations and business companies have been putting effort into analyzing big data to increase business performance.

Community membership identification from small seed sets

Proceedings of the 20th ACM SIGKDD international conference on Knowledge discovery and data mining, 2014
In many applications we have a social network of people and would like to identify the members of an interesting but unlabeled group or community. We start with a small number of exemplar group members -- they may be followers of a political ideology or fans of a music genre -- and need to use those examples to discover the additional members.
