Seeds, as reproductive units, are expected to produce plants in the field. However, farmers and seed producers have long recognized that the labeled germination often overestimates the actual field emergence of seed lots. This occurs because by definition, germination is the “emergence and development from the seed embryo of those essential structures ...

Seeds, as reproductive units, are expected to produce plants in the field. However, farmers and seed producers have long recognized that the labeled percent germination often overestimates the actual field emergence of seed lots. This observation is attributed to the objective of a standard germination test which states that germination is the ...

Efficiency of some Seed Vigor Tests for Field Emergence Prediction of Onion Seed
Journal of Plant Production, 2016Laboratory and field experiments were conducted to evaluate the accuracy of different seed vigor tests for prediction of onion seed performance in field. Seed vigor tests under evaluation were accelerated aging (24, 48 and72 h), salt saturated accelerated aging (24,48 and 72 h) , controlled deterioration and brick gravel test, beside standard ...

Evaluation of Vigor Tests for Sorghum Seed1
Agronomy Journal, 1973AbstractStandard germination tests often overestimate field performance of sorghum [Sorghum bicolor, (L.) Moench] seed. Seed from 60 seed lots were germinated following NH4CI treatment, NaOH treatment, and no treatment. Results from these tests, seed size, and tetrazolium staining were correlated with field stand establishment under four sets of ...

Vigor tests on lettuce seeds and their correlation with emergence.
Ciencia e investigación agraria, 2005Themain objective of this study was to evaluate some of the available seed vigor tests to predict lettuce ( Lactuca sativa L.) seedling emergence. Eight lettuce seed lots were evaluated by the following laboratory vigor tests: germination (GT), accelerated ageing (AA), saturated salt accelerated aging (SSAA),conductivity (EC), and digital image ...

Grain Sorghum Field Emergence and Seed Vigor Tests
2014Poor emergence of sorghum [(Sorghum bicolor (L) Moench] affects the stand and potential yields. The major objective of this research was to find correlations among field emergence data and laboratory seed vigor tests. Thirty-two and 30 hybrids of sorghum were planted at three Virginia locations in 1995 and 1996, respectively.
