Human Evolutionary Demography: Introduction and Rationale

open access: yes
Human evolutionary demography combines research in evolutionary biology with the study of human demographic patterns and behaviors. Evolutionary biology and demography share many conceptual features that give rise to a natural complementarity, such as a ...

A novel gibberellin promotes seedling establishment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
A previously unknown biologically active gibberellin present in seeds of Arabidopsis thaliana is formed by hydration of the gibberellin precursor GA12 through the action of GAS2, a 2-oxoglutarate-dependent dioxygenase that decreases sensitivity to ...

Perceived Equity: An Underlying Mechanism Between Sustainability Strategies Adopted by Businesses and Farmers' Well‐Being in Agri‐Food Value Chains

open access: yesBusiness Strategy &Development, Volume 9, Issue 4, December 2026.
ABSTRACT To promote the well‐being of farmers, businesses across coffee, cocoa, and other agri‐food value chains are increasingly adopting sustainability strategies that go beyond classical certification schemes. Key strategies include corporate sustainability programs, social entrepreneurship, and farmer self‐organization in cooperatives. However, the

Livelihood Heterogeneity and Adoption of Combine Harvesters Under Flood Risk: Evidence From the Wetland Areas of Bangladesh

open access: yesClimate Resilience and Sustainability, Volume 5, Issue 2, December 2026.
Livelihood heterogeneity explains uneven combine harvester adoption in haor wetlands. PCA–cluster analysis identifies four farmer typologies shaping mechanization pathways. Adoption is highest among educated and networked land‐rich farmers, lowest among traditionalists.

Phenology and recruitment of Caryocar costaricense (Caryocaceae), an endemic tree species of Southern Central America

open access: yesRevista de Biología Tropical, 2009
Basic aspects of the reproductive biology are largely unknown for most tropical tree species, although they are important elements to understand the impacts of anthropogenic activities as logging and forest fragmentation on these populations.

Tree Species Vulnerability to Fire Increases at Dry Range Edge

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology Communications, Volume 1, Issue 4, December 2026.
Following severe drought and fire, some tree species experience increased tree mortality, topkill (death of above‐ground biomass) and lower rates of seedling recruitment at the dry edge of their ranges, while other species maintain resilience, exhibiting low rates of mortality and topkill and high rates of recruitment across their ranges.

Advances in the Integration of Genomic and Phenomic Tools in Cowpea Breeding for Improving Stress Resilience and Grain Yield and Quality

open access: yesLegume Science, Volume 8, Issue 4, December 2026.
ABSTRACT Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L. Walp) is a multi‐use crop highly valued as a food crop, high‐protein fodder, and sustainable cover crop. Yet, it remains underused, and yields in most growing regions are below the crop's potential due to multiple biotic and abiotic stresses.
