Development and validation of a nomogram for prognosis of bone metastatic disease in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma: A retrospective study in the SEER database and China cohort

open access: yesJournal of Bone Oncology
Purpose: Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is a prevalent malignant tumor worldwide, and individuals with ESCC and bone metastasis (BM) often face a challenging prognosis.

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Identification of the plant mitochondrial OrfX protein: A mass spectrometry approach

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The mitochondrial genome of plants contains an open reading frame, orfx, which encodes a rare protein that has so far escaped mass spectrometric detection. The protein resembles the c‐subunit of bacterial twin‐arginine‐motif‐dependent protein translocases (TatC).

Establishment of Risk-Prediction Model for Axillary Lymph-Node Metastasis in Microinvasive Breast Cancer Based on SEER Database

open access: yesZhongliu Fangzhi Yanjiu
ObjectiveTo analyze the factors influencing axillary lymph-node metastasis (ALNM) in microinvasive breast cancer (MIBC) patients, as well as to establish the risk-prediction model of ipsilateral ALNM in MIBC patients.

Predictors of Cytoreductive Nephrectomy for Metastatic Kidney Cancer in SEER and Metropolitan Detroit Databases

open access: yesJournal of Kidney Cancer and VHL, 2019
Patients without cytoreductive nephrectomy (CN) are inadequately represented in metastatic RCC clinical trials. The characteristics that impact the decision of CN were explored in the SEER database.

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.
