Sources of the Radio Background Considered [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We investigate different scenarios for the origin of the extragalactic radio background. The surface brightness of the background, as reported by the ARCADE 2 collaboration, is several times higher than that which would result from currently observed ...

Parental and Peer Relationships and Their Impact on Symptom Severity in Adolescent Patients With Anorexia Nervosa

open access: yesEuropean Eating Disorders Review, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Perceived parental relationship characteristics, such as maternal overprotection, rejection or neglect, and peer victimisation, are suggested to be more common in patients with anorexia nervosa (AN) than in healthy controls. This study compares parental and peer relationships in adolescent patients with AN to those in a clinical ...

Planck pre-launch status: calibration of the Low Frequency Instrument flight model radiometers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The Low Frequency Instrument (LFI) on-board the ESA Planck satellite carries eleven radiometer subsystems, called Radiometer Chain Assemblies (RCAs), each composed of a pair of pseudo-correlation receivers.

Granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor gene transfer to dendritic cells or epidermal cells augments their antigen-presenting function including induction of anti-tumor immunity.

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Dermatology, 1999
Dendritic antigen-presenting cells derived from epidermis (Langerhans cells), bone marrow, and peripheral blood can present a wide variety of antigens, including tumor-associated antigens, for various immune responses.

Spectrum of Phenotypic, Genetic, and Functional Characteristics in Patients With Epilepsy With KCNC2 Pathogenic Variants

open access: yesNeurology, 2022
Background and Objectives KCNC2 encodes Kv3.2, a member of the Shaw-related (Kv3) voltage-gated potassium channel subfamily, which is important for sustained high-frequency firing and optimized energy efficiency of action potentials in the brain.

Extracorporeal photopheresis—New insights into an old procedure

open access: yesTransfusion Medicine, Volume 36, Issue 1, Page 53-58, February 2026.
Abstract Background Extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) is a safe immunomodulatory strategy that induces cell‐type selective apoptosis through photodynamic processes. Despite decades of use, the mechanisms underlying ECP remain largely unexplored, particularly in studies examining specific immune cell subsets in ex vivo setups.

Are i‐Motif Structures in DNA Compatible with Cytosine–Ag(I)–Cytosine Base Pairs?

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Volume 65, Issue 2, 9 January 2026.
An i‐motif/duplex junction was evaluated with respect to its ability to replace the protons from the hemi‐protonated C:CH+ pairs by AgI ions to form C–AgI–C base pairs. Interestingly, only one such metal‐mediated base pair can be formed before the oligonucleotide rearranges into a duplex structure.

On two new means of two arguments III [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In this paper authors establish the two sided inequalities for the following two new means $$X=X(a,b)=Ae^{G/P-1},\quad Y=Y(a,b)=Ge^{L/A-1}.$$ As well as many other well known inequalities involving the identric mean $I$ and the logarithmic mean are ...

On the Brink, a Population of Hedgehogs in Central London

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 1, January 2026.
A small breeding population of hedgehogs survives in central London's Regent's Park (166 ha). A 10‐year survey (2014–2023) revealed a decline from an average of 28 individuals to just six in spring 2023, driven by low breeding success and high mortality.

The Planck Low Frequency Instrument [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The Low Frequency Instrument (LFI) of the "Planck Surveyor" ESA mission will perform high-resolution imaging of the Cosmic Microwave Background anisotropies at four frequencies in the 30-100 GHz range.
