Fault activity studies in the Lower Tagus valley and Lisbon region using geophysical data [PDF]
he Metropolitan Area of Lisbon and the Lower Tagus Valley (LTV) region are located in central Portugal and inhabited by nearly 4 million people. The region has suffered throughout its history the effect of destructive earthquakes caused by hidden faults,

ABSTRACT The Mediterranean is particularly sensitive to rapid climate changes (RCCs) during the Holocene. An increasing number of natural climate archives revealed that socio‐economic developments were influenced by such RCCs since the Palaeolithic. However, multi‐millennial and high‐resolution archives are still rare and often located in mountainous ...

Laser Stabilized to a Fiber Interferometer With Close‐To‐Zero Temperature Sensitivity
A laser stabilized to a hollow‐core fibre interferometer is presented. The interferometer is designed to have near‐zero temperature phase‐sensitivity. Laser stabilized to this interferometer put in a non‐vacuum environment achieves ±550 kHz frequency variation over 100 h and an Allan deviation of 2 × 10−14τ, which is comparable to miniature ULE ...

The von Neumann Stability Analysis of the Fixed‐Stress Schemes in Poroelastodynamics
ABSTRACT We investigate splitting schemes based on the fixed‐stress sequential approach for poroelastodynamic problems. To assess numerical stability, we perform the von Neumann stability analysis on several fixed‐stress schemes for poroelastodynamics, including staggered, stabilized, and iterative methods. Our analysis reveals that while the staggered

A Parallelized 3D Geomechanical Solver for Fluid‐Induced Fault Slip in Poroelastic Media
ABSTRACT We present a fully implicit formulation of coupled fluid flow and geomechanics for fluid injection/withdrawal in fractured reservoirs in the context of CO2$\textrm {CO}_2$ storage. Utilizing a Galerkin finite‐element approach, both flow and poroelasticity equations are discretized on a shared three‐dimensional mesh.

Radiometric Constraints on the Timing, Tempo, and Effects of Large Igneous Province Emplacement
Exploring the links between Large Igneous Provinces and dramatic environmental impact
An emerging consensus suggests that Large Igneous Provinces (LIPs) and Silicic LIPs (SLIPs) are a significant driver of dramatic global environmental and biological changes, including mass extinctions.
