On modeling seismicity in seismic hazard assessment problems

Doklady Rossijskoj akademii nauk. Nauki o Zemle
Seismicity modeling is an important part of creating General Seismic Zoning maps within the framework of a probabilistic approach. We consider the main disadvantages of individual elements of the recent seismicity models. A variant of the methodology is proposed, which, due to the improvements of those elements, should provide more accurate estimates ...

Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Assessment in Countries With Low Seismicity

Volume 8: Seismic Engineering, 2014
The region of the Czech Republic is mostly composed of the Bohemian Massif which is considered as a geological unit with low seismic activity. Nevertheless, all critical objects as the nuclear power plants, big dams etc. are built as aseismic structures. The nuclear installations have to satisfy the IAEA safety standards and requirements.

Seismic Safety Assessment

1977
The emphasis in these notes is on the use of random vibration analyses to predict the response of structures to earthquake ground motion. Random vibration analysis has as its aim the prediction of the probability distribution of a dynamic response parameter of interest in terms of the dynamic properties of the structure and a statistical description of

Seismic Damage Assessment of Steel Frames

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1998
The seismic damage analysis of steel frames based on the use of global evaluation indices is addressed. A general procedure is proposed aimed at estimating the degree of damage induced by severe earthquakes in structures not supplied with monitoring systems. Special reference is made to the Park-Ang, McCabe-Hall, and plastic fatigue indices.

Pombalino Constructions: Description and Seismic Assessment

2013
This chapter describes the Pombalino building structures built in Lisbon downtown and other parts of Portugal during the reconstruction after the 1755 earthquake, as well as their earthquake resistant features. In particular the importance of the Gaiola Pombalina, a tridimensional wood truss characteristic of those constructions, in the potential ...

Probabilistic Seismic Assessment of Concrete Dams

2009
The seismic assessment of existing dams is normally affected by system complexity and uncertainties. A probabilistic method is then considered in the present work to effectively manage such uncertainties regarding structural data and external actions, and also to account for several potential failure mechanisms, whose definition and numerical ...
