Cancer and Capitalism: Towards a Critical Sociological Agenda

ABSTRACT This article considers the relationship between cancer and capitalism from the perspective of political economy. It argues that this perspective is crucial for producing a critical agenda in the sociological study of cancer, which has otherwise and traditionally neglected the question of capital as social totality.

Online Jump and Kink Detection in Segmented Linear Regression: Statistical Optimality Meets Computational Efficiency

ABSTRACT We consider the problem of sequential (online) estimation of a single change point in a piecewise linear regression model under a Gaussian setup. We demonstrate that certain CUSUM‐type statistics attain the minimax optimal rates for localizing the change point.

New knowledge about shock events that affected the L‐chondrite parent body from two heavily shocked L6 meteorite finds

Abstract We report new results from a study of shock‐related features in the L6 ordinary chondrites Northwest Africa (NWA) 4672 and NWA 12841. Our observations confirm the occurrence of eight high‐pressure (HP) minerals in each meteorite, namely, ringwoodite, majorite, akimotoite, wadsleyite, albitic jadeite, lingunite, tuite, and xieite.
