Using GPU to Accelerate Correlation on Seismic Signal

2019
In analyzing the quality of seismic signal, the fundamental mathematical operation is the convolution of signal with basic signal. Analyses carried out in the field need solutions that can be executed by a single machine. Meanwhile the size of processed data from land seismic surveys is in order of tens of terabytes.

Seismic Noise Correlation on Heterogeneous Supercomputers

Seismological Research Letters, 2017
ABSTRACT We present a high‐performance tool for the computation of ambient seismic noise correlations on central processing unit (CPU) and graphic processing unit (GPU) clusters. This is intended to address emerging challenges in noise correlation studies with increasingly large data volumes.

Polar Correlation of Seismic Waves

1984
Polar correlation (PC) facilitates the study of seismic waves from the point of view of their polarization. Polar correlation serves to determine the parameters of polarization of seismic waves in resolving the following problems: identification of simple and complex interferential waves; determination of their type, etc.

Magnitude correlations and dynamical scaling for seismicity

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2007
We analyze the experimental seismic catalog of Southern California and we show the existence of correlations between earthquake magnitudes. We propose a dynamical scaling hypothesis relating time and magnitude as the physical mechanism responsible of the observed magnitude correlations. We show that experimental distributions in size and time naturally

Correlation of seismic attributes to well production

SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2014, 2014
Development of large land shale gas fields often requires thousands of wells with each well costing multi-million dollars due to horizontal well drilling and hydraulic fracturing (or fracking). While many believe seismic attributes can help drillers make better informed drilling decisions, it is also widely recognized that completion and fracking ...

CORRELATION DETECTION OF SEISMIC DISTURBANCES,

1963
Abstract : In a medium in which noise and signal propagate with different velocities, a detection scheme making use of the cross-correlation between the received waveforms at two different locations offers a number of distinct advantages over one making use of ordinary autocorrelation of the received waveform.

A model for correlation of bridge seismic performance

2014
A model for bridge seismic performance correlation is proposed consistent with PEER framework to facilitate the reliability assessment of bridge networks, which takes the probabilistic model for reinforced concrete bridges by Mackie et al. (2008) as the basis. In the formulation of the correlation model, the variables presented in the PEER framework for

Correlation between neotectonics and the seismicity of macedonia

Tectonophysics, 1970
Abstract The neotectonic contemporary structures and their correlation with the seismicity have been studied in the territory of Macedonia. It has been found that the seismic activity of the ground in Macedonia is defined by the neotectonic and contemporary tectonic processes acting on this region.

Correlation of seismic dip sections with well data by seismic modelling

54th EAEG Meeting, 1992
The correlation of well data with seismic sections is a fundamental aspect of a seismic interpretation. This correlation can be carried out by using synthetic seismograms at the well location. It is thus important to onderstand the spatial distribution of the reflected energy to the profile line.
