Assessment of Seismic Structural Damage

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1989
Most existing structural seismic damage measures are based either implicitly or explicitly on some measure of the maximum ductility attained or desired, or on peak acceleration. In this paper, two completely new damage measures are described, one based on the concept of equivalent hysteretic cycles of deformation and the second on concepts derived from

An image-based seismic damage assessment system

Multimedia Tools and Applications, 2015
Surveillance systems are commonly used by command centers to monitor and assess seismic damage inside buildings, such as schools, shopping malls, office buildings and skyscrapers. It is expected that checking camera images manually on monitors can be a very time-consuming and inefficient process, especially for a large surveillance system.

A robust approach for seismic damage assessment

Computers & Structures, 2007
We present a robust approach based on a convex analysis to take into account uncertainties appearing in evaluations of damage to structures during an earthquake. Two kinds of uncertainties are introduced: on the excitation and on the structure. The results obtained by the convex analysis are compared with a Monte Carlo simulation to evaluate the ...

Seismic Damage Assessment Indexes for Masonry Structures

Journal of Structural Engineering, 2019
AbstractThis paper proposes a new model to quantify the enhancement effect of confinement elements on the seismic behavior of confined masonry (CM) structures.

Seismic Damage Assessment of Steel Frames

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1998
The seismic damage analysis of steel frames based on the use of global evaluation indices is addressed. A general procedure is proposed aimed at estimating the degree of damage induced by severe earthquakes in structures not supplied with monitoring systems. Special reference is made to the Park-Ang, McCabe-Hall, and plastic fatigue indices.

Seismic damage assessment and basis for damage-limiting design

Probabilistic Engineering Mechanics, 1988
Abstract A seismic damage model is developed for reinforced concrete structures in which the structural damage is expressed as a linear combination of the maximum deformation and the hysteretic energy dissipation. From an extensive damage analysis of various reinforced concrete buildings, an intensity scale is derived to describe the potential ...

Seismic damage assessment using linear models

Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering, 1990
The problem of earthquake damage assessment is defined. The role of the analysis of strong motion records in damage assessment codes based on expert systems is pointed out. The behavior of some damage indices proposed in the literature is studied using numerical simulations.
