Investigation on the failure evolution characteristics of surrounding rock in deep cross‐fault roadway: Based on physical model test and numerical simulation

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study reveals the failure evolution characteristics of deep cross‐fault roadway surrounding rock under excavation support and periodic weighting. Periodic weighting readily induces fault activation, with the spatial distribution of failed rock masses being controlled by the fault strike and dip.

Effect of C-FRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer) Rope and Sheet Strengthening on the Shear Behavior of RC Beam-Column Joints

open access: yesFibers
This study presents a high-performance external strengthening strategy for reinforced concrete (RC) beam–column joints, integrating near-surface mounted (NSM) Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (C-FRP) ropes with externally bonded C-FRP sheets. The X-shaped

The application of seismic surveys to the evaluation of shallow coal deposits [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
The viability of using surface seismic techniques in the exploration of shallow coal deposits in the UK is investigated. The geological factors that affect the economic viability of a prospective site are the overburden ratio and the presence of faulting,

Integrated numerical simulation and source‐sink matching methodology for Basin‐Wide CO2 storage assessment in depleted reservoirs: A Cambay Basin case study

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study presents an integrated workflow to evaluate secure and large‐scale CO2 storage in depleted oil reservoirs of the Cambay Basin, India. Industrial CO2 sources are systematically matched with mature oil fields using a quantitative source–sink framework to minimize transport distance and cost.

An Innovative Technique for the Strengthening of RC Columns and Their Connections with Beams Using C-FRP ROPES

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The application of the innovative C-FRP ropes for the strengthening of reinforced concrete columns is experimentally examined. Two real-scale specimens with the same geometrical characteristics and the same steel reinforcements were constructed for the ...

Sustainable Seismic Design

open access: yes, 2017
Traditional design of a seismic resistant system for a building structure has often relied on structural damage as the intended response of the structure to limit the increase in lateral force and to dissipate energy.

Evaluating Seismic Resistance and Energy Dissipation of CFRP‐Reinforced Concrete Frames Under Monotonic Loading

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering and Resilience, EarlyView.
“It was found that good ductility can be achieved in CFRP‐strengthened frames, and this result was validated through experimental testing.” ABSTRACT Reinforced concrete structures are increasingly vulnerable to deterioration by steel reinforcement corrosion, resulting in severe loss of fracture strength and service life, particularly in severe ...
